Hi Scooter,

Don't mean to argue here, but domain value aside (ie. who or what can buy it), there's also the other issue of wether a person (who may or may not also have a company) can rank that site and make some money.

The question is do they rank ??

online-betting.me.uk does.

Also, doesn't nominet also state .org.uk's must be not for profit ?

Oh well, that's my two-penneth - I'll shut up now !

Without development and rankings and lots of work, etc, etc, your .me.uk hardly compares to 'free-stuff.me.uk' does it?

It's just a (parked) domain name you have, with a speculative value at the moment. :D

Yes I know that, but that's where end user has to put the effort in, same with any domain, you dont see top domainers earning millions off of all the prime generis just sitting there do you, no is the answer.

Specific rules for the .me.uk SLD

9.1 Introduction
These are the specific rules for the .me.uk SLD, administered directly by us. They form part of and, in the case of conflict, take precedence over the Rules.
9.2 Charter
The .me.uk SLD is intended to provide a personal namespace within the .uk Top Level Domain. Unless Rules 9.4 or 9.5 apply, registrants of .me.uk domain names must be, and remain at all times, natural persons (a “qualifying person”), and shall not be recorded on the register as being the agent, trustee, proxy or representative for any person or entity (whether having an individual legal personality or not) which is not a qualifying person.
9.3 No actions unless in accordance with the Charter
Unless Rules 9.4 or 9.5 apply, no registration, transfer, renewal or change may be requested to a .me.uk domain name which would be in breach of Rule 9.2, and any such request may be rejected. If, despite the previous sentence, such an action is requested and does occur, Nominet may reverse that action at any time in addition to any other rights Nominet may have by contract or otherwise.

Transferring from person to person is ok. Person to business will be stopped or if it slips through the net they may come back at some time and take it back.

.

Interesting. :)

I complained ( April 2008 ) about a UK Limited Company using a .me.uk to Nominet a while ago and they said:

Thank you for your email regarding the registrations of .me.uk domain names.

The .me.uk domain names are intended for personal registrations, however we do appreciate that the ***.me.uk domain name is registered to a UK Limited Company.

In accordance to the domain name rules Rules section 9.5, the domain name ***.me.uk was registered on 05 July 2004 and can remain registered to the limited company until it is transferred to another party or cancelled.

I hope this addresses your query, however, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,
Louise Maishman
Assistant to the Director of Operations

Yes they do rank well. (as i stated)

.org.uk's are very different. ......

  1. 4.4.1 .co.uk; or
  2. 4.4.2 .org.uk.
In the SLD Charter of the SLD Rules for the Open SLDs we do set out certain intentions regarding the class of applicant or use of registrations of the Domain Name which we assume you will comply with when applying for a registration of a Domain Name within an Open SLD. However, we do not forbid applications, and will take no action in respect of registrations that do not comply with the SLD Charters

9.5 Transitional Arrangements
As a transitional measure, any .me.uk domain name registered before 25 October 2004 will not be subject to Rules 9.2 and 9.3 until it is next transferred or cancelled.

So they cannot transfer to a company. Only to a person.

I think it is strong enough for somone to develop into a site, however it will be capped due to the extension ie. exit would be limited to business.

Acorn is a reseller venue and I would price it under the .org.uk , £xx to v. low £xxx in my book on a good day to someone with a plan.

I personally dont like it as its .me.uk , and I would never buy anything from a site or click that unless its a personal site. But thats just me.

Fair enough Scooter.

So I suppose in essence there's limited commercial upside, hence nil interest from big business and limited value, therefore, limited credibility because they become synonymous with cheap looking, personal web-pages.

The nominet regulation sets in places something of a vicious circle.

Oh well, I've got 72 of them, so please form an orderly queue...

I'll have to brush up on my seo..

Cheers,

Steve.

It is my understanding that the domain can only be registered to an individual or possibly a sole trader (?). However, the use of the domain is not restricted to personal use. It is "intend for a personal namespace", but this is not enforced.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but a director of a company could register a .me.uk domain and the company can trade on that site, just as long as the Registrant is not listed as the company, or as John Doe acting as an agent for Company X.

Another potential use of .me.uk domains could be domain leasing to companies?

I've got an idea, everyone ditch .me.uk before people start leasing out .eu.coms which have never seen the light of day

As for .me i've been monitoring sales of .me and seen prime generics go for between 5k and 7k each but then Loan.me as much more appeal then Loan.me.uk

If .org.uks are so brilliant why don't they sell on here and why are lll.org.uks dropping ?

.com and .co.uk and that's it

NB* i accidentally regged my 1 and only .tel
I have had interest in it actually

.com and .co.uk and that's it

It sounds like you're trying to wind some of us up, but I'll take the bait! ;)

Yes, .com and .co.uk are at the top end of the market, but even Google realises there's room for other SLDs! No one is denying the other SLDs are less attractive, but they do have a place!

.com and .co.uk might be the equivalent of Porsche and the Skoda's are .org.uk and .me.uk, but they are all part of the same group and can still get you from A to B.

eeor eeor !!!

If .org.uks are so brilliant why don't they sell on here and why are lll.org.uks dropping ?

I don't think it's so much that people are saying they are brilliant, but there is a place for them if the word is good. As for those dropping, the good ones are not, they're being retained. There are plenty registered to members here who know a good opportunity when it is staring them in the face.

One man's meat and all that!

:confusedTBH i am so tempted to join the whole .org.uk thing, only FTR ones, i am now noticing some excellent .org.uks i had on a list are now gone and feeling quite gutted now

Is it now or never
