Wanted: Domain preimum .co.uk domain wanted with high type-ins

Please forgive the slight driftage here, but when you say "typins", what does that mean exactly? I just regged a 2-wd .co.uk utilizing research from Google's Keyword tool. And according to the results, it get 3600 exact searches per month. That's exact UK searches. I'm in Canada, and here it's only 2900.

I also did an (and yes, I know it's quite unreliable) Estibot evaluation and it's just shy of $9K.

I do think it's a good one. But are "exact" searches the same as "typin" searches?

I've bought domains before, but failed miserably. I hope I know what I'm doing now.

Also, I kinda lucked out. This is a new registration and sites of this type get lots of hits every day. I don't want to mention it yet, because I just regged it a few hours ago and I want to be sure all is well there.

Oh, shoot. How do I change my user id? I'm sure that's not what I posted.

Scratch my original post, I read 2-wd .co.uk as the name you had regged, when you meant you had regged a 2 word domain.

No, exact searches are the number of times someone on Google UK will search for the given term, type in traffic is when someone goes to their browser and types in the url of the domain to visit a site direct.

Exacts are not type in.

Ignore estibot you might as well give a kid a calculator and take the number it types in.

Thank you for explaining that, Rob?

The 2-wd I mentioned isn't the domain name. :) It just means it's a two-word domain name. (But I see you just edited that.)

I agree about estibot, but I do like it for the other info they offer.

Type-in vs exact does put a different light on things. I'm off to check this (if I can figure out how.)

Thanks again for your response.

Don't forget that type in traffic wont happen from all browsers, for example, I use Opera browser, if I type in a word and hit enter, it doesn't take me to the .co.uk site for that term, it takes me to Google search. I have no idea how other browsers work with regards to typing words in and hitting enter.

[edit]

I just checked on the other laptop using Firefox and that doesn't take me to a site if I type something in to the browser either, it also takes me to Google search.

On the other hand, and to ask yet another question, why is type-in more important than relying on G searches. If the site is a .co.uk domain wouldn't it be front and centre? Especially if the KWs searched are in the domain itself? I don't understand the importance of type-in URLs. Isn't it kind of rare that people actually do that?

Not asking to be difficult, just to learn.

It is rare, and not that important.

However, you get a domain that has say 1000 people doing it a day.... thats a fair bit of free targeted traffic!

Okay, I understand that now, as well as why those domains are more valuable.

A little research off-Acorn, tells me I'm dreaming if I think I can find one not yet registered. LOL

Also learned there isn't any easy way to find the rough type-in traffic number until you have a site up for a least a few months, which tells me "good" domaining requires domainers with good instincts.

Is there a tool to find type-in traffic? Couldn't seem to find anything.

And I really want to thank you all for your help.
Learning a lot more at Acorn than any other domain forum. Been lurking until today.

You may have more luck with a TLD or maybe .de (germans seam to do it alot more?) I'd also check to see how unique and there locations...? 1000 directs from a village in bongo bongo land is not worth much...

Apologies to the OP

I don't like any of those "bongo bongo" land tlds anyway. I am interested in .de, though. I have a long list of available names, but still not sure how to find those "type-in" numbers. Otherwise, good "exact" search volume.

One of my names TIE,com gets 3000+ direct typeins per month, but its not a .co.uk which you are looking for and neither does it fit in with the budget you mentioned in your post.

One of my LLL.co.uk name gets 4000+ typeins / month

That's quite impressive - what % of those 4000 is new traffic?

Ive seen the domain and it is an LLL.co.uk domain where there is a popular LLL.org.uk website in existance, so im presuming its people typing in the .co.uk by mistake.

Hi All,

Thanks for sending me your domains, but I have now purchased a decent generic domain name which receives between 500 and 750 type-ins each month, so im not looking for any more domains at the moment.

Thanks

Any hints to what, or a case of being nosey via PRSS? :)

I ended up buying Recipes(co.uk) , should be a good one to develop as recipes are extremely popular online, I know i always search online for recipes when cooking. I didnt buy it through acorndomains, was through direct negotiation with the owner.

That's a brilliant buy! Well done. Should lend itself to a lot of social media magic as well, if you let people post their tweaks and variants on a recipe, rate recipes, post their photos of dishes etc etc.

Was that owned by Mrs Jello (from memory)? Almost made an offer on it last year but decided to buy a different domain in the end.

Yep, great buy if it was < £12,500. It's a shame that high quality domains are not regularly priced up and posted on here really.
