Anyone using Wordpress should be doing basic performance testing after installing any new plugins, especially if they depend on the site for income.

The beauty of Wordpress is that it's so open and easy to develop for, the downside is that a lot of plugin development is done by people with a very shaky (or no) understanding of PHP/MySQL performance.
