Bought this one a while back and the few people I've asked to value it have appraised
it anywhere from a few k to 40k – would be interested to hear what others value it at.

1998 reg, acquired from the original owner.

Thanks for your time.

very nice name

reseller up to 2.5k i would say

as much as it's a very nice domain, i'd be surprised to see it sell for over 10k. even to an enduser

it's not like toyota deciding one day to splash out and buy cars.co.uk or autotrader

realistically who would be the big buyer of this domain, thats my only worry with overpricing the enduser price

an entrepreneur who 'gets it' with domains is your best bet, who's lookingn to develop a site geared to land etc or a land company. but then again, i'm seeing a real ceiling on price for reasons i gave

having said all that, wicked name. develop it!

Looking at the domain, its great. Short, easy to remember etc. Obviously better to target plots of land not story plots!

However...

Looking at the demand, its not. Its not a highly competitive field nor is it marketed a lot (What famous companies can you name deal in plots?)

http://www.uklanddirectory.org.uk/index.asp appears to be the top one for plots already and I doubt (even as the leading end user) they would pay more than £5k for it. I could be wrong though.

I found a land plot affiliate: http://www.uklandsearch.com/affiliates.asp you could set something up with.

I guess adding value to the domain and selling it as a business could be a good way to go.

Just random thoughts ^^

Thanks Pred/Ashton,

I actually used to run a very profitable website selling land plots on a commission basis, which was the main reason I bought it. Average commission per plot sold would be anywhere from £300 - £3000. It was this website that gave me the money to start investing in domains.

I still have a few contacts within the industry for when I get around to developing it. With the property market and the economy starting to pick up somewhat, development is something I definitely want to start this year.

More appraisals very much welcome.

Thanks again!

Ironically, I would have thought the recent PlotsofLand.co.uk would be more targeted than Plots.co.uk. The latter is more valuable, but vaguer. Probably low to mid x,xxx. More to a specialist firm dealing only in land.

Thanks Edwin. Not often I disagree with you but on this occasion, I do. I wouldn't call 'plots' vague, a search for 'plots' on GKT returns the following, in order of popularity. All relate to plots of land. It's a term that covers the whole category but I wouldn't call it vague.

building plots for sale
plot of land
building plot
building plots
plots for sale
plots of land for sale
plots
plot of land for sale
building plot for sale
plots of land

For me it was a distant second choice after land.co.uk – if you check whois you'll see why land.co.uk wasn't an option :p.

Thanks again for your input.

hi guys the bigboys in this market are plotfinder ...

it could be worth quite a lot to the right end buyer, but whoever would have to dislodge the exsiting big players.

this would really be aimed at the selfbuild market , commercial agents as stated above go for land instead of plots.

nice name though worth a shot developing i'd say.

I am going to slightly side with Edwin on this one, experience tells me that it is the the best and most common descriptive that attracts the end buyers. Thats not to say the 'single' word isn't up there in value particularly if the descpriptive term is too long or the single word of equal common usage. I'm not sure "Plots" is defining enough for a general viewer but, equally Land has never been part of any of my investment thinking. So as a laymen in the field (pun intended) I would say around £10k.

Actually Rob you appraisal request has given rise to a good question I shall post shortly

the way the landdirectory people get top is they have a network of smaller sites, all pretending to be diff people and backlink in

i have a similar background rob. i had a land company back in 2002 and didnt realise then that dropping a name it would get regged in seconds

people also dropcatch company names!

anyway, heres a well timed land/ outdoor portfolio sale i had tucked under my bed
http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/domai...6-outdoor-land-garden-portfolio-must-see.html

shameless pitch :D

How about using it for a site dealing with allotments? aren't they referred to as plots? you could have a site where people can rent out their allotments assuming theres a market for it?

As a valuation I think it has to be valued as a brandable name as it's not really something you'd search for imho.

I also think plotsofland is better but plots does do it.

I would say 2k to 3k

GKT new:

plots..................720 ukexacts pcm

plots of land........390

land for sale....60.500

If your talking £2k, 3k or 10k for "plots" or "plots of land", how much "land for sale" worth? (No real need to answer, by the way)

cheers, Luke

I also think plotsofland is better

You'll never get me agreeing with that but each to their own I guess.

The general consensus appears to be that its worth 2-5k, with one person saying 10k. I can't say I agree with the 2-5k crowd but then selling plots of land is where the bulk of my income used to come from so I know the business/industry well, plus it's my domain which makes me somewhat biased.

I wouldn't really call it an overly brandable name either, although it's certainly easy to remember.

Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to reply, I might not agree some of the comments but it's still very interesting to hear other peoples views/opinions.

Thanks,
Rob
