When I click the read more under The Biggest Secret of Successful Weight Loss, I get a database error.

Rotating pictures at top are taking up too much valuable screen space.

Need to explain incentive for signing up to newsletter.

Thank you for the fast reply!

My hosting company just upgraded the server to make it load faster but they have messed up something so its being temperamental, they have assured me it will be fixed by Monday.

The sign up lets you access the forum. But I will take that on board definitely.

There do seem to be quite a few performance issues, so do get on to your hosts (who are they out of interest?)

Remember that call to actions are very important on websites. What exactly do you want your visitors to do?

It's very frustrating all the problems we are having.

We want visitors to sign up and start contributing in the community through the forums. And engage through social platforms (FB,Twitter and You tube) Also to occasionally click the adds to help with the running costs :p

Slowly making some changes to the site, not as fast as I would like as I have had allot of assignments for my degree. I am thinking of removing the image adds on the sidebar. Moving Pages to the top, with FB and Twitter Icons below. Then a Text Advert bellow that.

Then Placing an banner add at the end of articles.

Have been earning on average £1.80 a day over the last 5 days with the sidebar adds.

Any advice appreciated.

Hello, made a few changes. Appreciate if you could let me know what you think. Also we are looking into an alternative for the rotating pictures. :)

Very briefly:

I would put the Facebook and Twitter buttons within the first page view.

AdSense placement is non-optimal. I would integrate within body text, and within the first page view. Put it under the user's nose.

Strapline The No.1 Online Weight Loss & Fitness Community should be right under the logo at the top.

Title bar and rotating pictures still take up way too much of the first valuable page view.

You could do with a link to a site map page.

I don't want to put adds to heavily in it yet as they are a bit annoying for users.

Please let me know what you think of the new design. I have removed the headlines.

Removed the headlines. Any better?

I run a poker forum and I know just how difficult it is to reach critical mass - I came close in 2010 but never got there; however I learned a lot on the way. The two 'easy' routes to establishing a thriving community:

1. Attract thousands of visitors each day: add signup CTAs across the site, start a few threads and it will soon pick up.

or

2. Create a user focused forum with medals, avatars, competitions, ranking/reputation systems and even points that can be spent on unique forum items. Turn posting into a game and you will be rewarded - Google 'gamification'.

The only other way is a long hard slog that involves asking each and every person you know to help out whilst also creating dummy accounts and posting fake conversations each and every day without fail. Unless you have lots of traffic, or the budget for a great forum system, then unfortunately this is the only way.

All the best,
Nick
