Isn't it generous of Paypal to offer ready made donation buttons for your website. Perhaps it's because they still take 25p out of the pound in fees?

wait till the google offering comes out then this figure will drop dramatically!!
:D

Let's hope so. I welcome the day someone comes along who can compete with that greedy auction site! All the competeters try to go the whole hog whereas they should pic one category e.g. vinyl records and chip away!

Good luck google!

Actually PayPal is cheaper than credit card companies and they pay a lot faster.
It just doesn't look very professional and the general public don't understand it.

Yep Amex is the most expensive, which is why they never took off in the UK and most retailers refused to accept it.

no 25p! or 24 to be precise!

That must have been on about 90p.

OK. On a real transaction, say £50 from NameDrive, they will charge £1.90, which is 3.8%. This is better than any credit card company.
As the amounts go up, the charges come down.

People who complain about PayPal generally haven't had to deal with Barclaycard Merchant Services.

It was £1 donations to a campaign which are having 24p in fees deducted!

Competition is a good thing....Will probably help curb any thought of increases at this time by PP....

Paypal charges way more than a decent CC processor.
I pay, on average 1.7 - 2.0 % AND have FAR less of a chance of having the buyer default and me losing my $$$.
In 16 years of accepting CC's I have had a handful of disputes (maybe 3-4) with MC, Visa, Amex and have never had the money taken from me. It's been held until the dispute was resolved or I provided proof the product was delivered or a complaint was answered but never lost the $$$.
Maybe 4 years with PP and had money taken more than once for products sold and delivered with proof. They didnt care or listen.

PP is a necessary evil and I use it all the time. Almost everyday but they're not good by any stretch.

Unless you are turning over £250K+ a year, I don't know of any CC processor who's charges are that low. (That's normal charges plus online facilities.)
Barclaycard charge in the range of 3.5 to 5.3% and are total bastards to deal with.
Please name this wonderful company.

I think it may be worth you trying to renegotiate your rates Colin! Our CC rate is within the range quoted by togoodhlth and that is for a reasonably high risk area (computer components online, cardholder not present) and with a turnover of a lot less than £250k.

That's with HSBC for the merchant account and Protx for the egg headed secure processing. Both are pretty good to deal with.

Google has been talking about kicking paypal's weaselling face in for a while but google has so many fronts to fight that I fear it maybe a while.

They have yet to take on facebook/twitter/myspace, they are fighting microsoft with chrome, even tho they are a huge company there can only be so many battles before it goes yahoo.

Hello all,

I am looking for the merchant account for my new site as well. But i don't know which one is better for my gambling site, which is considered the high risk business. So I tried to find the the high risk merchant account provider.I heard that Ctopay is a the suitable one.I have no idea.I just contact with the sales manager of ctopay--Yang(his skype account is ctopayhk2).From the conversation with him,I find it good, and will cooperate with him.I have no idea about paypal. But I just heard that it is easy to get blocked by using paypal, which resist the high risk businesses.
