Portfolio Over 7000 .uk reduced in price

Portfolio domains
Only a certain portion of regged domains have value.

Alot are just re registered as owner is mentally invested in the domain.

I dont think .uk which comes at a time of a more mature understanding in the market needs to match .co.uk sales figures.

Just as inportant is what sort of prices will prime or commercially obvious .uk domains fetch in the future.

In a beauty contest uk trounces .co.uk for virtually any domain I look at.

Its digital real estate and people like nice houses.

.uk still looks odd to me. The domain name looks incomplete without the .co but ehh I'm old school. :(

What do nominet do about the tens / hundreds of millions which has been lost from what was initially forecasted when they gave all the .uk's away for free to later find they are being dumped and not renewed?

Hopefully they didn’t forecast the free ROR names as future profit ...

I guess they could always put the cost price up 15p of everything else to compensate :)

Simple, they change the method for the way they calculate their bonuses so it is no longer linked to the number of domains in the registry. Scumbags

They have experienced a hefty loss especially if the some occurs in June/July because they might as well not have bothered given about 90% will have been dumped and not renewed so tens of millions would have been wiped off their forecast, i suspect they gave everyone the .uk for free assuming they would renew... June / July is make or break and for that reason i expect them to allow any man and his dog to catch domains in order to get the volume they need to stop .uk being a flop.. Hence why they will turn a blind eye to tool.domains because its additional tags registering .uk's which they need at the minute.

Seems to me that all these drops are like loads of rights issues, and whilst giraffe sale/drop was good chance to stock up - it will take a while for it to be digested. On the plus side if it's true that every lll that dropped today was reregistered it shows there is a strength of demand for .uk. Sell some, keep some, and hopefully a year from now they'll be a good investment.

I feel that much of current dropcatching .uk's is for thrill of the chase, rather than reasoned investment. There are scarce few sales beyond pocket money to offer any encouragement. The flood of listings on DL is a reflection on state of the market.

Hmmm... not sure about that, Ben. I wonder what % of domains are caught by namecatchers and what % of domains are registered by hand via a Registrar?

My guess is that namecatchers cream off the top 5% of names which may offer a profit on re-sale. Maybe as much as 10%, I don't know.

The other 90-95% of domains are dependent on usefulness to the people who register them?

I think the domains with value on any drop list will rarely be more than that 5%, so Nominet's income stream must be dependent on more than the drop catching process.

That's just my guess as I haven't done any assessment and I don't know who has.

If you think of the 900,000 or so .uk domains that have dropped in the past few weeks and not been re-registered, that suggests to me that the whole Nominet project to double up on .co.uk misfired to an extent. That's a lot of people who simply didn't want to register two domains instead of one.

Of course, a lot of people still have, but not as many as they might have hoped. If they thought that free registrations were going to pamper and stimulate their market into expansion, that didn't really work. I'm guessing with the drops this January and in June (with a lesser wave in October) probably about 1,500,000 .uk domains will have been wiped off their total registrations.

He may aswell have done this to us and nominet...

Actually, I think who ever caught bulgarian.uk is doing the opposite as to what you think, Rule Brtitannia ;-)

I see you have put a YouTube video on it now:

https://www.bulgarian.uk

I had traced the director of Safari Ventures Ltd as far as this guy in Bristol:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/philpartridge

He does SEO for Rhino Car Hire....

I had presumed it was a Kalin tag going by the other names they caught recently:

thinking.uk 2021-01-23 SAFVENTURES
raccoon.uk 2021-01-18 SAFVENTURES

@Whois-Search - Kalin is behind the following tag who caught some of the LLL's yesterday:

Mantas Simkus t/a SIMKUS [Tag = SIMKUS]
URL: http://www.bethebest.uk

Some of those domains point to a DAN.com page for example: https://dan.com/buy-domain/cqu.uk?redirected=true&tld=uk

However, you can now seen they have changed the profile so it does not say eDOMS or Tool.Domains any more but i have around 10 screen shots of different domains on that tag all pointing to the profile of Kalin and since i mentioned that tag and dan page on here its been changed.

A few more i have not seen
