I was quite surprised today - I ordered a domain catch with a fairly established company. I checked whois to see if it had been cuaght yet and it was sitting there free to reg. So I went to my usual domain registrat and grabbed it and now it's all mine, saving myself £xx in the process. But I was very surprised that a name I had back-ordered was sitting there for the taking.

Anyone else had the same experience?

2 thoughts - first though - software malfunction, happens to us all at some point.

Second thought - not a popular name you went after if you were able to hand reg, hope you have something good in mind for it.

123-REG?

Some catchers (myself included) only load up a certain amout of domains at once.

Yes same thing happened to me a little while back but somebody else got there before i did and hand regged it, i wasn't too pleased about that at the time.

Cheers

If it was an automated system like myself or dropcatcher then things like putting in incorrect details (postcode, wrong contry code etc) or submiting the domain too late or simply not completing the process.

Of course where all human as well :)

Just to clarify, it wasn't any of the individuals on here, but the company might hang around here a little ;)

Wasn't a grade A name, but 2k+ exacts a month and an area I know quite a bit about so was quite pleased to get it.

Yeah, guess software could have gone down, but that's two fails and a hand reg so far, not great is it?!

You'll get used to the fails. Two fails in a row with a public catcher is very normal for anything half decent :p.

usually they catch it before me, as I never check on it myself.

Anyway do anyone know if Namewarden is still active?

I've only seen them catch a handful of domains in the past few years, I don't think they were ever really active :)

Happened to me once with diningroomfurniture.co.uk - had it booked but something went wrong, managed to hand reg it.

So would you guys normally only book with 1 person? Surely its best to book with as many as possible to rule out competition and since they are no win, no fee?
