I think we need to change this booking system! Thanks for the input. Would you prefer a system of credits?

Credits would be better, invoicing monthly would be even better :) but I can undestand why you wouldn't go down that route!

Monthly invoices would be best. If that makes you nervous (and for long-timers, why should it?), perhaps combine it with an up-front deposit e.g. 100 quid or something.

Failing that, then I guess credits would be ok - they work for DropCatcher after all.

If you do get a more flexible payment system off the ground, you've got at least one more customer ;)

I agree and mentioned the same thing before directly.
I would prefer monthly invoicing and as Edwin stated if a bond was needed of £100 that would be fine to establish an account and then get billed monthly on what was caught.

adding my own experience ,i will say the refund is very fast indeed ,i ve try the dropcatching for few domains and was unsuccessfull but asap i msg him i get refund very fast.
also the domains i tried are all generic so i wasn't mad for the result. but i will do business with them again as i love how fast they reply.

Hi guys.

My name is Simon from DropSystem. I am Dale's business partner (and son incidentally).

We appreciate your comments re. the backorder system and you'll be pleased to know that we've taken your suggestions onboard and have released what we like to call the "Preferred Client Backorder System", which is operated under a credit account basis.

Please PM either myself or Dale/aZooZa with a request and we'll send you the link to get yourself signed-up. As the name might suggest, this credit account backorder system is for preferred clients only, therefore we reserve the right to refuse access, though I'm sure this won't be a concern for Acorn members. Can you please indicate if you are an existing Drop List client when contacting us along with your DropSystem userid.

There is a bond payment of GBP 100 required. Once this is paid you'll be able to book in backorders with no up-front payment. The bond payment is refundable upon request no sooner than 30 days after the date of the latest domain backorder you've placed on the system.

Succesful backorders will be charged to your DropSystem backorder account at a rate of GBP 30 per domain. Invoices will be sent out to clients on a fortnightly basis, every 1st and 15th of the month and payment is appreciated within 7 days thereof.

The public facing backorder system will not change and upfront payments will still be required.

We look forward to being of service to more of our industry friends!

Kind Regards, Simon

They caught mobilematch.co.uk for me today, nice dating style domain of ok quality I'd say, customer service is always fast and friendly.

Blimey, 50 names in one day.
On what day were there 50+ names worth having? (Assuming many more than that were booked)

The vast majority must have been uncontended (ie nobody else wanted them). Which brings to mind expressions like:
Shooting fish in a barrel.
Money for old rope.
Nice work if you can get it.

In sorry if this sounds a little harsh, but if you are starting self advertising topics, then responding is fair.

They caught several domains for me , amended co uk being one. It was already booked on other drop catcher systems I tried but Dale and Simon caught it first for me.

With the rash of new Nominet members/TAGS that I've noticed recently going for the premium generics I'm surprised anyone's catching anything!

Hi Guys,

I know Dale didn't start this with the specific intent of self promotion. It was candid comment intended as nothing more than a general FYI seeing as we are relative new to the game with the EPP system.

I'm sure most would agree that amended.co.uk & mobilematch.co.uk weren't futile, "fish in a barrel" catches. Many other worthwhile catches have been made on our system. The point is really that the 50 catches he mentions were all booked and paid for by clients - we don't question a client's motives for catching a name, nor did we catch any of these for ourselves.

Agreed, these certainly aren't 'A class' generics but we have caught numerous domains that would without question fit into the the 'A class' category. As Dale mentions, we can't mention these without the express consent of the client, which I'm sure you will all
appreciate.

The negative comments aside, I'm glad Dale did start this thread. Otherwise, we would not have received the constructive feedback re. the booking system, which ultimately led us to develop the "Preferred Client" backorder system.

If this thread has been considered 'self promotion' we thank Admin and the mods for their indulgence.

Best of luck to everyone with the drops!

Regards, Simon

I dont think its been a successful self-promotion. You have simply left many questions unanswered and your system has not been proven to be worthy of the price you charge.

Its to complicated having to keep paying by paypal or setting up an account with £100 in it.

Caught works well because you just turn up, type in your domain, book it and your done within a couple of seconds. No having to worry about credit in your account or money going in and out of paypal.

I think they've made a strong effort in a very short space of time to go from a pre-paid system to a booking system with a 100 pound deposit. It's a tough call to pick the best drop booking system (which I think Caught.co.uk offers) and then use that as the yardstick...

So, statistically, you lost out. Commiserations. Book with another catcher next time!

Wow, My first post and I have to say - strange how you do business here at Acorn. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out..."

I thought that attitude was left for other forums. My big mistake.

Have a nice day.

Hi Lew,

Welcome to the forum, despite what you've seen you'll find there are actually quite a few friendly people round here :)

Not sure if I'd count as one of them though

Dale's comments were perhaps a little brash and in retrospect I'm sure he wouldn't have used the exact same words. Hey, everyone has their "off" days and I have to tell you that the "old man" is particularly cranky at the moment - something to do with the British summer I think!

However, I know that part of what he was trying to get across was that statistically, Foz would have been better off hedging his bets by also placing backorders for the domain with other catchers as well (not just us), such as caught.co.uk - that's the "Book with another catcher next time!" part. Some I think misinterpreted that as "take your business elsewhere", which obviously is not what Dale was trying to suggest.

Anyway, let's all play nicely and keep any feedback comments constructive.

Cheers, Simon

Unfortunately Simon, its not the first time that has happened.

Still, I wish you all the best.

Yeah, and probably not the last...

Imagine what he's like to live with !!

Edit: But in reality, he did catch webhunt.co.uk and geosite.co.uk for me and offered me £100 each for them afterwards which I refused, so I'm hardly dissatisfied.

Feeling a little tentative whether to dare get involved in a topic which seems to be more of a slanging match than a thread.

Anyway, I started using DropSystem only in the last two or three weeks, just before the preferred customer system started - out of 4 drops, they caught 2 - refunds were practically instant.

I've only ever received friendly e-mails from both father and son and I feel that I get an enjoyable and personal service from the two of them.

The new login system - with £100 bond - is certainly much easier to deal with than paying up front everytime.

I think it's great for domainers (especially for those without their own TAG and catching software) to have another clearly professional port of call to rival other backorder services like Caught which, of course, is another example of a great system run by an extremely polite, efficient, and friendly guy.

Best wishes, Richard
