Wanted: Domain Appraisal Nottingham.online

I guess this might have been worth acquiring if you're also the owner of NottinghamOnline.com/.co.uk and want to protect the brand, but otherwise I can't see any value in it. Also, to me, the word 'online' seems a bit dated, going back to the days where someone might ask 'Are you online?' before it was taken as read that you'd have a website, etc.

On a similar note, I was driving behind a van the other day that was advertising a companyname.construction domain, but as it doesn't look like a domain name (even to me, as one of the relatively few people who's aware of the new gTLDs), they'd included 'www.' at the front, resulting in an unwieldy-looking 'www.companyname.construction'. I couldn't help thinking that companynameconstruction.co.uk/.uk or .com would've been a better bet...

I can definitely see the appeal of the new gTLDs and in this example you've got a 1 word geo keyword and a gTLD extension that fits the term well. So i can understand the domainer mindset of snapping such a domain up at reg fee.

It's only when you start to look deeper at the practical applications of such a domain that the wheels start to fall off.

Any attempt to brand such a website is only gonna drive more traffic to NottinghamOnline.com/.co.uk (as MJT mentioned above). I think you're giving the general public far far too much credit to think they're gonna correctly type in a .online domain into their browser.

You could throw up a simple one page website, with links to Notts newspapers, community groups, make it a simple resource page for the area. Then try and build links into that, maybe you could make a few pound a year from adsense.

But it's not a domain I'd consider investing time/money into developing. I'd much prefer something along the lines of "GoNotts.com/.co.uk" etc.

I said it about .info
I said it about .biz
I said it about every other available extension for your own term

PS look up mobi threads in the past here and in other forums which is *EXACTLY* the same argument you're going to use... then check the dates ;)

It's worth zero PLUS a multiple of its revenue (12 - 120 months).

One advantage I think it does have is that it looks good in advertising and is simple to remember. www.Nottingham.online, simple.

One issue is that Google Local has meant big competition for local directory sites, so that must affect domain prospects.

There are exceptions... I sold a reg fee .info for 10,000 dollars. Exceptional (but it does happen). It was a 1 word domain that quite possibly you don't even know ...to make it sound even more unlikely!

A big advantage the past had over the new wave they didn’t all hit the market at the same time? So easier to hype dot bongo bongo and part the gullible of there wonga, Unfortunately there more likely to be using wonga than spending it now…

Always thought of geo’s more the obsession of domainers than real world, 100,000,s registered globally how many making a living out of them….

Holding page and hope drop if no bites before renewal..
