Nominet Debate

Just one small question:

Why has Nominet not publisised the details of their office move on their website under their "Current News" section?

Fairly major stuff (including some legal requirements) that is as far as I can see not being publisised on the company website! - very strange

Also - when first asked if they would be attending the show, why didn't they just say? - 'sorry we can't attend because we're moving offices that week' :???: - that seems to me a reasonable response, or are we now seeing some reactionary comments being made? ;)

Regards,

Sneezy.

Sneezy, there are a great deal of things that Nominet don't publicise. Believe me.

nominet

There is always to sides to a story
And im suprised that the people who posted No show Nominet have been on this site today and stll not posted.

if a newpaper journalist or editor is collecting info and posts a headline that headline is open to questions just like the questions they are asking about nominet im asking about them.

When did they contact nominet and ask them to attend the show.
Once you get the info for that, then you will get the reason as to perhaps why they did not manage to go to the show.

and the devils advocate will ask
and maybe someone should be asking why are people paying for a show that if nominet is not for profit the same as the domain focus show then why are domainers being asked to pay where there is corporate sponcers.

The answer lies in Lesley Cowley's reply, which is published on Domain Focus page

"Id like to thank the organisers of Domain Focus for the opportunity to present at their conference in September. However, as I stated back in February, we are moving to new offices over the weekend of the 7/10 September, which is where the focus of our senior managements time will be that week. This is a major move for us and so we were unable to commit to speaking at the event, though when asked, we did offer to speak if the date could be moved."

.

...7th - 10th September - mmm - such exact dates from over 6 months ago  - I think I shall be going down to Oxford to check progress of 'the move' on those dates! ;)

Regards,

Sneezy.

PS: I think I'll bring my reporter friend to report on the move - pictures and all. ;)

Thanks for the info scooter

If domainfocus knew that nominet where not going to show since feb
Then can you tell me why the big splash over the website.

Making out like you only found out last week.
For some reason it looks like your trying to cause trouble with domainers and nominet.

And im sure James that like captain cook who you know a bit about would have you walking the plank for mutiny.

Looks like you trying to goat domainers into a argument with nominet
and since you new to this game would suggest that there is no way you can give an journalistic honest view of this matter and there is alteria motives about.

Who really cares anyway. Most of us are preoccupied; messing about with DAC glitches and screwed up drop dates. How many people are there in Nominet's technical department? Anyone know?

It seems not only Nominet isn't visiting the show, but decided to host their "popular Registrar Information Day" on the 6th of Sep in the West End's Radisson.

This sort of shows their attitude towards domainers shows of that kind.

And that simply sums it up. There can be no further defending of Nominet now, can there?

In london for the 6th... I am sure DomainFocus would make space on the 7th :)

To get to the bottom of this - could we have a clear indication from someone involved confirming when Domain Focus invited Nominet to come? Or at least when Nominet were told the event was likely to happen, so if they had wanted to they could have penciled it in?

Hey Beasty,

Nominet was invited at the last show in Feb, and have been re invited about 6 time over the past months, they have an open invitation.

I suspected as much David.

Based on that, then the next question is why are Nominet sending two people (General Counsel and Chairman of Experts) to SA at the same time as they are unable to send anyone to Domain Focus?

They are apparently going to talk about dispute services, when Nominet's own one is subject to radical and contraversial proposed changes - that are apparently in many ways against the wishes of the respondnets to the consultation. When a large number of .uk registrants (with an even larger number of domains) gather in London, they can not send one senior legal person along to explain themselves. Are SA listeners more important?

Oh the irony of a chairman advocating DRS when you he prefers UDRP

I followed your links

Andrew I followed your links and found an interesting link...

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=4101970

Extract 'The role of prior knowledge in elaboration strategies was examined in 3 experiments. University students were presented with material that accessed either a highly developed or a less developed knowledge base and instructed to answer «why» questions (elaborative interrogation), create interactive images (imagery), create interactive images using keywords (keyword), or read the information aloud (repetition). Across all 3 experiments, elaborative interrogation was most effective when learners were able to draw on a rich knowledge base. However, when the knowledge base was low, imagery-based strategies were more potent than elaborative interrogation. These results suggest that creating mental images encoruages the processing of both relations and distinctions to a greater extent than elaborative interrogation when the learners' background knowledge is limited.'

I am sure not the same T Willoughby but the experiment does have some relevance to the current DRS...
