Nom specific query

Ok this is specific to Nom and how it works with regards to cancelling two domains that I want to cancel with immediate effect.

I have access to the domain via my Nom account - so I know I can do this. But the domain is held by a registrar (who I do not have access to) who sets the DNS which in turn points to a very very old website still running on an old shared server.

Taking down this website is also due to the fact the company was closed down with Companies House about 5 years ago. i.e. I do not want to be associated with the content. Nothing dodgy - but v v old content.

So if I cancel - I understand that it goes straight in to the 5 day period before being dropped.

My Question (sorry!)

Does the current Registrar with these domains on their Tag make contact with the account owner (not legal owner) of the domain to let them know what's happening?

I want this to be clean and simple - so am hoping it's a no... but I have a sinking feeling they would.

I can divulge which registrar via chat if anyone interested - as that may have a bearing I would think.

Anyone help on this one?
Cheers
TW

If you want to reclaim control then change the tag in your nominet account to a new registrar that you do have access to.

Then delete the nameservers (or change them to whatever you want).

It will cost you £12 but sounds like it would save a potential headache.

Yep - understand that bit - it's more whether that triggers an automated response from the current registrar to the person who controls that account with the domain in!

Yeah, it's possible they could issue a transfer away notice - I take it that means it's sitting in someone elses registrar account?

At the end of the day though if you control the nom account and change the tag, there's nothing the old registrar can do because the domain would be off their tag and out of their control.

Morning! Thanks for the advice BI much appreciated - sorry if a bit short last night - trying to do things on a mobile is rubbish.

True - this is an old account, old site and ex-partner situation that whilst I don't really care - I could do without the aggravation if you know what I mean. Be just so much nicer if it can happen in the background and they are none the wiser until after the event.

Yeah I was starting to get that impression. Who's the registrar? Just on the off chance that someone here has done something similar with them and might be able to give some more info.

Just off the top of my head from things I've done in the past, I'm pretty sure godaddy don't notify.
