Wanted: Domain Appraisal new or old???

i have changed my home page because advice from acorn,i still have to change the right hand side text to white from the pale blue,and add some more content to make the page more level,has anybody got any idea for widgets or something interesting to add to the sidebar,and i have also removed majority of the adverts under advice.

The New layout, with the old layouts colour scheme.

I really dont like sites black like that, the blue looks alot nicer.

Also the logo is looking a bit tacky. Effects like that really can have the opposite desired effect. Try something non 3d and smooth. Will make such a difference.

It's better,but :

You need padding between the text and the containing boxes, try to make the content boxes line up with each other, also you need more space between the content boxes it's not easy to focus on any one part of the site.

The amazon box makes the rest of the site look dated.

White text on black background is hard to read, and as Mat said the logo looks bad, if you don't really know how to use graphics software properly then it's best to keep it simple.

Plus on your forum the picture for 'no new posts', 'new posts' and 'locked' are the same? not really very helpful as a key.

Ever thought about having someone do the design for you?
I'm not a designer, developer and regularly have to admit defeat and get someone with the experience to help.

problem i have is i paid good money to a designer from off guru and if you look at the wayback machine the site was awful,i am trying to learn as i go along ,so the help i have from here is extremely valuable to me.

the forum will be removed because i remove approx 50-60 postings of porn every day day and it is becoming very boring,yes the logo needs work and i think i maybe trying to fit to much content into one small space.

Why not choose a template for the site and just get a CSS HTML coder to put it together?

I looked at the previous website and as you say it it was not good, If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay this guy to create it?

The thing is you have to weigh up the pro's and con's of getting someone to do it for you, ok it might cost you some money but how much is your time worth? how much time have you spent making these two sites?

Another question is do you want the site to be successful or is it just a hobby, because IMO opinion you do not have the skills to really make it look good and that could be detrimental to the success of the site.

Creating it yourself of course has it's positive elements, there is the satisfaction of doing it yourself, and the skills you learn, but if you are going to do it yourself, do it properly, use the proper tools for the job, learn the rules of CSS and HTML properly and then apply them.

it worked out about £325 with the forum which is the old phpbb

nope!!!,i have seperated the boxes a little and i will change all the tabs to look uniform.

If it's a site purely for a hobby and for click through revenue only then it's a good effort mate and will suffice. I personally am not keen on any site with a black background, but that's just a personal feeling.

The graphics need working on (i.e. the tabs). Maybe have a look at istockphoto.com to see if they have any graphics you can buy.
