Just hand regged WestMidlands dot info so I won't feel too hard done by if it's not worth much. I've never bought any .info domains before so would really appreciate any input? From what I've read around Namepros and some domain blogs .info's are rising again in the wake of the new gtld's and that GEO .info's are the best to get.

Does anyone see any value or was this £1 down the drain? :D

Thanks,
Dave

For £1 for a geo like that, hard to go wrong.

That's not to say you'll get rich off it, but you've bought yourself a bargain year to see what happens :)

Thanks Edwin.

Bargain of the year or bargain yeah? Either way thanks :D

I'm confused why anyone would bother to develop a domain about the west midlands (let alone a uk area on a .info), and this late in the day?

Blackpool.info etc I could understand

And this late in the day?

Wait didn't you want to pay $10k for contact.info, which doesn't even suit the TLD..? :p

In all seriousness though like I said GEO's seem to be the most natural fit for .info imo so I thought this had to have more value than £1. With the new gtld's coming I'd expect .info to get some attention amidst it all too.

Just my opinion though. Of course I'm not experienced enough in .info so would appreciate feedback.

Much better to go for more highly targetted geos. I think you'll find it hard to sell. Hardly a big gamble, but why reg this when you could spend time finding better domains?

Rgds

Maybe slap a quick site on it with links to various West Midlands stuff.

You can get a head start by checking the Google results for
intitle:"west midlands" site:.co.uk
and
intitle:"west midlands" site:.com

Should give you some idea of commercial sites related to the West Midlands.

You could also refine the search further like this:
intitle:"west midlands" intitle:(ltd|limited)

Which will give you sites that have "west midlands" in their title AND either "ltd" or "limited" i.e. references to companies with the expression in their names, and/or serving the region.

Thanks for the input Edwin, something to seriously consider, will be interesting developing a .info. :)

And accelerator I spend time finding domains and this was one lol :p One day I'll find one of those 0.01% gems that somehow slipped through the net lol. :D

The more I think about it your right.

Now I see great opportunity for someone wanting to spend large amounts of time and money developing and ranking a fantastic 'go to' site about the West Midlands on a .info domain.

And your right nobody uses the phrase or term 'give or send me your contact info' anymore - Doh! what was I thinking... contact.info it just doesn't fit.

..something like contact.org.uk would be better for an international service.

Julian, I apologise, my attempt at humour clearly failed. Contact.info is a good domain and yes I can see how it could be developed. :)

I appreciate your input mate. Sorry again.

Merry Christmas! :D

Don't apologise! I'm just being brutal and practical... I'm no expert you can probably prove me wrong if you wanted.

..just don't end up like me the man who wasted around 50k on various domains over the last 15 years and is the only 'domainer' in the world who makes more money letting his domains expire than selling them :D

No need to feel hard on yourself we've all made mistakes the hope is we don't keep making them! :D You're chatting to a guy who turned down a couple thousand bitcoins in 2010 for a domain and failed to even buy any.. lol.

Hey Julian it can be a bit depressing if you only look at what you've lost and not what you've made.
Assuming of course that that 50 is not a net loss.

+1

So you have not made much from domains but what about the knowledge you have gained from being involved with domains and the domain community, web development, trends, business, which domains to develop etc.
