My Domain Purchase

Is it? If so then by who and as what? "Anything" and "anyone" isn't a valid answer! :) Almost anything can be branded but there are variables that determine how successful the effort is. "WeBuyAnyCar" is now a brand but it wasn't before an idea was hatched, money was spent and creative people were hired to create the brand.

Well, the imagery just the word provokes is massive - everyone has a comical image of a rabbit that comes to mind when they hear the word - whether they know it or not... well known animals are good for that.

2nd - this is in the top lot for those well known animals - Monkey can hopefully vouch for that

3rd- like you say - anything can be branded - this is a very, very memorable name

4th - if I had to give an example end-user - I'd say it lends itself well to phone/telecoms companies but could be literally used for anything

I'm glad you speak for "everyone". I thought of the pet animal, the sex toy and the former telecom service. :)

Well that's something at least - if someone doesn't have an image of a rabbit in their head, I don't wanna know them - so in that respect I speak for everyone else :)

Possibly because you recall Rabbit in respect of early mobile phones? :)

not quite old enough to remember :) - just based on rabbit as in talking...

As for the trademark issues - I'm not well enough versed with it - but I'd be pretty confident with a generic name like this, even offering it to them - please correct me if that would be a mistake...

Potentially. I am sure many others here potentially could be. It depends. :)

I honestly don't know at the moment, that is why I didn't post a sales thread ;)

I think you're asking so you can try and work out what I paid..

But by all means if you want to make me a reasonable offer feel free.

A 4 page thread because somebody bought a domain :D Stop the press! :D

I'm going to post all my domains for sale in the news section, you can't beat this publicity :D

It's not the news section, it's the invincible factor

Get him involved in your threads and posts soon mount up :)

I'm surprised your keys haven't worn down completely, let alone fade :D People should pay you to keep forums active. If you can turn a guy buying a domain into a 4 page discussion there is surely money to be made!

In equally newsworthy fashion. I'm going to bed.

You must surely know the minimum you'd take, after all you just spent the most you've ever spent on a domain name! :p Logically it won't be below that amount! So somewhere between that amount and infinity.

I'm not. I might be many things but a mindreader I am not. :) If I really, really, really wanted to know I'd probably just ask the former registrant.

You aren't a mind reader, but as you said above, from what I ask for you can try and work out what I paid, just being nosy ;)

Reasonable is more than how much...? ;)

This isn't a sales thread so until I do make one there's no point saying an amount.

If you seriously want to make an offer then feel free, otherwise stop being nosy ;)

More people should post their domains for sale in the news section then we can talk about them without being reminded of the forum rules :D

I find it hard to believe that any hypothetical serious buyer would rule themselves out of interest in acquiring a very specific domain name such as rabbit.co.uk simply on the basis that the seller happened to pay a lot less than they were now asking for it. A standard response by the seller could be "we turned down more than you're currently offering last month". Stupid enquiries are stupid enquiries regardless of other factors. I feel it is unlikely that a stupid enquiry is going to turn into a smart buyer with an appropriate budget. :)

I remember paying mid xxxx for a domain that I had only missed by 'minutes' buying on a forum for mid xxx. The seller told me the sale price but it had no bearing on my negotiations with the new owner. Took 2 weeks to agree price and complete deal. I wanted it and I wanted it regardless of the original reg of xx and resale of xxx.

On a lighter side, invincible, what is it that really turns you about Murray?  Were you separated from him at birth or something?

Going to have to object to that question :-|

Ah, the invincible effect; take ones news in which they are proud and attempt to discredit and destroy it, seems to be a common trend. Purchase price can influence future sale price, so Murray, keep it private and good luck with either the project or sale.

Oh, please do tell how much, privately. Wouldn't stop me from paying your price!

They can always say "there are alternatives we could acquire instead".

The likelihood is if someone has an idea for a website to build on Rabbit.co.uk, then it works equally well on any other 1 word animal name that is easy to spell and has no negative connotations like tortoise (slow) or whatever. Look at the site I built on Monkey.co.uk... that'd have worked just as well on Rabbit.co.uk if I couldn't have bought it at a price I was happy with.

Even if knowing the original purchase price doesn't affect how much someone would be willing to pay, it'll certainly affect how much they open their bids at. So it really doesn't change the fact you know Murray posting the price only has a downside, with zero upside, yet you're asking him to hurt his own business interests anyway purely to satisfy your own curiosity :D

Obviously completely made up numbers but if I was willing to pay £15k for Rabbit and I knew Murray paid £1000 for it, I'd be opening somewhere < £5k. If I knew he paid £10k for it then I'm going to open nearer the £15k I was willing to pay. You'd do exactly the same - so why try and get him to make things harder for himself?

Another theory for members here not wishing to name the price they paid for a domain name could be not wanting to look like they overpaid at some future date either when it still hasn't sold or if it sold but not for a vast amount more than what was paid for it.

I'm not worried I overpaid

Of course I would have liked to have paid less; I would have liked to have paid as little as I could get away with

But people seem to know the value of domains generally so it's hard to get anything good for cheap, but some domains are cheap even at a price that would be considered high in everyday life.
