Hi Everyone

Just finished (I say that now, will still be tweaking forever) my company site, I have few bits left to do but the new logo etc has been added and I'm sure I will be changing by ading new images and things, but as every would love your feedback.

Dot Developments

Many Thanks
Leon

The dark blue of the online media in the logo gets a little lost in the background.

Could do with a sentence or two to give a mission statement on the home page, so you know what the site is about immediately.

Putting some of the services available on the home page as bullet points might help too.

I might be tempted to use a font for "Out latest projects" to improve overall feel.

A page like:

Dot Developments - Domain Development

Looks quite slick, not entirely sure about the graded background image though. Using a bullet graphic in front of all the headings might add to "feel".

Looks good.

The image ribbon gave me an impression of iframe at first, especially with the URL shortening service. :wink: Vertical smaller ribbon with some more info next to it might work better as this horizontal image change strains eyes a bit.

Good luck!

the logo has a different color background than the rest of the content at the top (im using firefox 3.5.8)

if this is intended, i would make a little bit of a border, so as not to push the ribbon and the text to the very edge.. and i would probably round the corners of the logo image.

Great suggestions

Thanks so much guys for the feedback, I am taking onboard all the great suggestions, I have corrected the websites page can't believe I mixed up a couple of the sites, must have been tired, oops.

I am going to slow down the scrolling on the index, and working on a strapline / mission statement, I am looking at logo also, but I am running firefox 3.5 and checked on the latest 2 versions of ie and the background of the logo looks the same, did see an outline on a very old version of ie so once I have tweeked the logo may look at a new oulined version in png.

Will look into changing fonts on some headings, and I am looking at how the index ribbon looks, will slow it down a little tonight, it is going a little fast.

Thanks everyone, good rep added to everyone

You won't like me much, but why are you using <div>'s like tables?
On you portfolio page every image and text is made up of 3 <div>'s and a <p>, that's 4 block level element for a picture and some text?

<div>'s are for dividing sections of the page not for containing every element on the page, that part of the page needs 1 <div> to contain the portfolio section, the rest could either be a <dl> (definition list) or just a plain list.

<div id="portfolio-container">
<dl>
<dt>Website Name</dt>
<dd class="portfolio-image"></dd>
<dd class="portfolio-text">text here</dd>
</dl>
</div>

Add as many <dl>'s as you want Float them left ,bit of padding and margin and Bob's your Uncle, no need for 24 <div>'s you might as well use tables.

Also two much jquery stuff going on, totally unnecessary for the navigation effect, some simple javascript could have taken care of that (though i wouldn't have bothered at all), and the carousel seems to have a mind of it's own, I know some people find all that animation impressive but some people look at the code....sorry but you asked for an appraisal...:(

On the plus side though the design and palette is pretty nice.

Feedback is feedback, bad or good its useful to me. I always appreciate good code advice and will look at the overuse of the <div> elements, I have used <dl> on others, but I'm sure its still better than tables, I like the jquery elements, and wanted the site to look slick but professional. Those that are looking at the code are probably coding thier own sites rather than looking for help.

Don't get me wrong I really appreciate you taking the time to look at the site.

Many Thanks
Leon
