Because it's been dropped into a Sedo auction seemingly at random (offer sent to auction, I am guessing) I will say no higher than 100k.

Dunno but if i was the Seller i would also be contacting some Companies to make sure they know its at auction.

i'd be shocked if it went for 35k, if its near there when its ending i'll put a bid in myself!

At that price I'd be bidding myself if I wasn't boycotting Sedo. Damn these principles!

Carphone Warehouse own mobiles.co.uk along with a few others.

Yeah, I knew that... I sold it to them. ;)

even if as a defensive move to stop someone launching a stand alone brand

I can't see this. For me phones.co.uk and mobiles.co.uk work as brands but mobilephones.co.uk just doesn't.

or at the very least 2 motivated buyers

Agreed, it's an auction so all the valuations in the world mean nothing, on the day it's whether more than one person wants it badly enough. You only need to look at phones.co.uk going for under £50k at auction and for me that's a better domain.

i'd be shocked if it doesnt go into 6 figures
how could it not?

A sticking point for any serious buyer might be that the seller also owns mobilephones.com.

Big corporations generally make sure that dilution of this type can't occur before signing a cheque but maybe having an auction gets round this problem.

You'd be mighty peeved buying the .co.uk one day and then seeing your competitor buying the .com the next.

I notice the local search term became very popular last October around about the same time as a nominet update.

very true
didn't realise they owned both
nice position to be in

Shrewd selling the .co.uk first imo, if it gets picked up and marketed well then the .com will see a traffic spike from confused grey surfers

If I owned both I certainly wouldn't break them up.

Registrant(s) appear different, yet the same address.

nice but not that great - owner missed the boat imho - the term 'mobile' will be old hat in a few years, people just search for phones - it's like the way having 'online' in domains used to be the dogs bollocks in 1999 it's got a shelf life now..

James sold onlinecasino.co.uk less than 9 months ago for £100k :)

I hate the new Sedo front page.

How the hell to you get to see the auctions? !!! I've had to go through the twitter blog link just to see whats happening!

For a sales orientated company they do a good job of hiding what is on sale

Can someone please give me a link that shows the current auctions, so I can bookmark it.

thanks.

Thank you. I had to look very hard for the Market Activity link. It's buried!.

People will still always need to distinguish between landline phones and mobile phones so i would expect the term to stay strong even though the tecnology is old. If it goes for under 80k i would be surprised, time will tell.
