I'm currently planning a pilot project with 20 schools in my county, which will involve each school having a birdbox + webcam installed on their school grounds, each streaming online over a 16 week nature project in the spring. A project website will allow visitors to choose a stream to view.
I'm going to need to rent media server space to serve the 20 streams, but this is the first time I've personally had to manage this part of such a project. There will be some national promotion for the project amongst the education / nature / science communities, but I don't expect traffic to be huge. So I'm running on the following estimates:
20 x webcam streams
256kbps bitrate for each stream
Assume maximum 20 concurrent viewers of one stream
4 months rental
I'd require the host to set the server up for me, but I should be fine in working with each school in getting their stream online. Doing some searching, I've found US companies like Primcast offering Wowza server rental, which I think would be fine. But, I would much rather work with a UK company, with the possibility that additional support (maybe even a support contract) might be needed.
Any folks here work for hosts who do this? Looking to spend around £100/pm.
