Making a Domain earn £1 a week

Time for a bit of feedback to my cocked up £1 a day project. Basically I was being too cocky with it such as using duplicate content and pages with no real content on. Google banned many sites from it's adsense feed and also from the rankings. All in all a waste of my time, shame as they were doing quite well too. I have learned from that, perhaps the hard way and am now concentrating on more quality and less quantity.

I've now got a few hundred sites rolled out. How did you find out Google banned you - do they notify you or do you just noticed there were no ads on the sites?

I've got too many names now for the adsense reporting so don't know how much each is earning me now, although up to about £15 per day across 300.

Stephen.

Do you use some kind of CMS to manage that number of sites? Did you manually research the content for them all? 300 is a lot! :D

A nice bit of kit i've come across is BANS (affiliate link) which I have used to build some little sites such as Used Porsche and Used Vans. These use the BANS setup. Buy the license and use as many times as you like which is great. The ones above took a few hours, quite enjoyable as I'm into cars. Ones like David Cassidy took 10 minutes. They are great as you can spend more time writing content than building - which is the name of the game, also you don't have to have the eBay feed - however this is earning me £2-10 a day from 30 sites. Plus the adsense revenue of course.

So I have learned not rush things, like courting a nice girl. Take your time and the rest will run it's course. If you want to know what I did wrong ask away below and i'll try and explain.

Are yuo getting much traffic to your BANS sites? Did you take much time choosing low-competition niches?

I'm thinking of getting into affiliations a little bit; particularly if it can go on my existing minisites.

Thanks for the update and keeping this very interesting thread alive :). I am reaching the $1 day, with adsense. Tried gumtree as well. Could do with a bit more marketing.

Good question. The trick in the end for a minisite is to capture the long tail in SERPS, and not to do too much in the way of marketing because it's so time consuming.

I've yet to find the balance between content and marketing, though.

I try to stick to good keyword domains and add some good content, then hope the se's pick me up

Developing one site well is much better than trying for 1.00 each with many.

So I just read all through this, my eyes hurt, but I was avoiding this thread for a long time (knowing I'd get sucked in to more projects).

A bit of a summary:

1. Choose a nice related domain name. Hyphens may also perform ok
2. Use unique content, try not to copy it from wiki
3. Try and make your site sticky by having a tool on there that people will return for, and that will result in other sites naturally linking to you.
4. Find a good adsense template
5. Try to get inbound links with related anchor text
6. Never try to scam google or do anything dodgy

After viewing a few people's websites that were mentioned here I noticed that a bunch of them are no longer displaying ads or they are closed all together.

I can't remember all the urls that I found this with but here are a few:
infoproductdirect.com
privatenurseries.co.uk
valvesprings.co.uk
If you own one of these sites what happened? Difficult to get traffic/site sold/banned from Google?

If anyone can share details it would be interesting to know the niche your site's in, the CTR, daily clicks, epc etc. This information without your site's url would be really interesting.

Ongoing good luck and I'm gonna have to build a few over the next week.

I use this which on just one site, one domain earns plus or minus $35 in a day, some days more and some days less, but times this by many domains - you can do the sums for yourselves, it's a very good little earner that is very easy to implement, set up and is very fast, meaning less hassle for you:

That page doesn't work for me, I get a forum error saying I don't have permission or something.

Hi..great thread this..

I have avoided the mini site route until now, but I have been developing a few large sites of my own, testing various hosting methods and various subject areas.

I would welcome some feedback on my main project..

http://www.onlineguitarguide.co.uk

It has no revenue yet as it has no visitation..I am so busy adding copy I haven't really done any seo work yet. Most of the copy at this point is from wiki, but some is totally original and I will be re-working the wiki pages over time. This is obviously a big site, but the subject matter is close to my heart so adding a few pages a day is no big deal for me!

(By the way, the design is my own)

Hi Bassbliss

Cool to hear about your mini site. However, remove that wiki text straight away. Google will index it initially and read it, see it's wiki (it's so well known) and ban it or at least not index it correctly. Ask yourself from Google's perspective - "Is this content useful for users of Google?" if it isn't (i.e. its copied from wiki and will be out of date immediately) then ban it. It happened to me with guitar.org.uk well the text is still there bet its the same as yours!!

Take time, research well, offer something a bit new. Good luck with it.

Ok thanks for the tip Ratboy, I'll take the pages down tonight until I get a chance to re-work the text

bassbliss - Your site is looking good and is definitely along the right lines for a minisite.

- I personally would decrease the height of the title graphic. You've done a good job with the graphic, but the height means it's taking up too much of the vital "selling space" at the top of the page. However, wait until your site gets indexed and see what conversion is like, then run a test with a lower height graphic and see if you notice a difference.

- Looking at your keywords tag I'm wondering if you could do a bit more keyword research and find more related terms - use the Google AdWords synonyms tool maybe.
