Is bank robbery still frowned upon as a career?

Not if you are employed at Canary Wharf and you are robbing off another bank which in turn really means the population.

I don't think it's called bank robbery. More like "grab and take" + repackage to sell on as quality bonds (which really means a bag of sh*te) = big bonus coming your way when you sell and feck everyone else.

Ummm, only if you get caught I believe!!

They put you in this room full of silly people in gowns and wigs and you get frowned upon...;)

I'm fairly lucky in that I am pretty much at where I want to be so more about protecting the lifestyle I have and maintaining it in the future so building some long term investments and security to make sure the family is sorted, also building future assets for the kids that will be in their names.

I started a separate business 2 years ago to buy existing sites and re-invest all proceeds to get to the level that it could keep myself and a business partner, it's probably around 50% now to the point could take over if 'everything' I do went tits up so a nice backup plan/pension.

Everything today/tomorrow is about passive income and stuff that's fun that should be eventually hands off if any hard work is involved initially.

I see your point Frank... :D

Doomsday scenarios...I have these thoughts frequently....quite often at 30,000ft but thats unrelated to this conversation LOL

I've also been giving thought to an offline business recently. End customer facing. Taking money directly, no middlemen, networks or regulatory bodies ...... Of course using online to promote it successfully would be essential but you could also successfully employ a host of other marketing methods like press ads, radio, tv, display etc etc

Trouble is, a proper touchy feely, have to get out of bed and go somewhere business is too much like a job and it ties you down. Unless you have someone run it for you...then again... you are at the mercy of someone/something.

Euromillions anyone?? LOL

For me it's about focus. I'm trying to focus on just a handful of sites, but sometimes that can be hard when there are so many opportunities.

I also want to start marketing some of my domains for sale properly.

Rgds

Right now for me it's still a hobby, so 5 year plan is to turn it into my full time income, and to be honest, I don't know how I'd like to be doing it. I'll take the next few years one success at a time and like Khallid said, when I get something successful going that's enough to support me and my family that I enjoy, I'll stick with it, otherwise I'll cash in and move on to the next project.

Still a hobby for me too (or it doesnt pay as much as the real job!)

Long term plans

1. Specific niche domination through seo and avoidance of ppc longterm.
2. Lead gen through local geo service sites, tapping in on ease of swift ranking and lack of competition.
3. Paid trade directories.

That should take me through to 2029, by which time, the internet won't be recogniseable or navigated as we know it today.

Pen > 2029, that's a bit random isn't it ?

I think the internet is still a baby but how it will look in 10 years time I don't know, maybe the only sites in SE's will be paid ones, maybe with voice recognition you tell your computer what you want and it finds it so no need for domains.

Are domains just a stepping stone to the actual internet when it's grown ?

You might think the internet is busy now but I seen on business programme that apparently online retail sales only make up for just 4% of all retail sales on a global scale so when the kids these days grow up and older non web users pop their cloggs that should increase especially if security issues are strengthened so that will encourage more sales aswell, combine that with the possibilty of 3D computers which allow you to have a good look at the products.

The internet will grow considerbly but will it need domains :-?

I am only looking at next 5 years and has it gets towards the end of that time then I will create an exit plan as in making movies :D

I take it you're a mobile valeter, I seen this guy on TV who only valets top marques and he uses make up brushes and that, all brand new on every job, he charges like £800 for a full clean

Stick to your day job, people will always need cars cleaning but the net won't stay the same.

My regret is that 2 years ago I bought some vending machines to start my own round and sold them instead, I do wonder if I would have a decent round now ?

iv been looking at a nice vending machine business round for sale around the winchester aera, loads of machines with pringles/coffee etc makes some good £ for very little work

Coffee machines are great but I've seen tons of Pringle machines for sale and they don't sell often so I imagine that they don't generate much income.

Going PM you about something to avoid

Interesting question.

Long-term, I'd like to migrate my selling process from passive (buyers walk in) to replicable-and-active (i.e. a proactive sales/marketing process that I can replicate, document and outsource successfully) and step up the pace of sales.

Assuming the above is possible, I'd then like to grow to 10,000->20,000->30,000->whatever domains, basically more and more raw material to pour into the sales process. Reinvest most of the funds thus raised into growing the portfolio larger and larger, then do a "Yun Ye"* down the road and dispose of everything, and leave the industry.

* I would be happy with a handy fraction of what he sold his portfolio for :)

Why dont you start properly developing some of your names and invest into their marketing?

Maybe you have got too use to them coming to you ?

You're like a shop that doesn't advertise in the local papers though losing extra business, other than your exhibitions I guess.

Nobody comes to me :( so I have to find them, I'm hoping to build my portfolio upto 500 domains and hopefully people will find me, I have linked all my domains on Sedo to each other to try and increase selling potential.

I will be happy if I make enough to treat me and my 3 kids and put something away for them :)

I have about 30 sites getting over half a million monthly visitors already in total. Domaining is just one of several hats I wear...

Out of interest would you share any of the urls for your developed sites so we can take a peek? ;-)
