Hi guys,

This is my first eu.com and probably last. But.. well, I know everyone says these are crap but they seem to be ok for a PPC campaign as ranking a site for some more competitive keywords is extremely difficult anyway (not even mentioning the price one would have to pay for the same keyword in a "proper" extension).
So my question is - are these really worthless in the current market? Most of them probably are.. but what about the very best, most desirable keywords? I recently saw CarInsurance available in gb.com but didn't register it (someone has though and also put a site on it). I also owe some gb.com - CreditCards, Forex, Shopping (this one aparently sold for $2k some time ago). Are such keywords in these subdomains worth anything to domainers?

All comments much appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter

It’s not all about generic it’s about revenue that’s the point most domineers miss entirely… If you have the ability to make something rank and get revenue then its worth money... If wookywakeywoo.com made a revenue it would be worth something..

Would you ever sell it well you paid someone else might …? Is registering these type of domains a viable business plan the answer would be no…

Thanks namealot,

Of course ranking and revenue that usually comes with it are very important.. but in this case I was thinking about looking at it from a perspective of a PPC campaign.
Maybe its just me, but in this particular case I think the name looks very neat, in my opinion much better than gb.com or even uk.com due to letters comprising the keyword used which just look good with this particular extension. Maybe I'm biased here but if I saw it on the right hand side of G search results along with some dodgy looking addresses I would rather click this one.

I realize these subdomains are not popular here and I don't like them either. But anyway, I don't really plan to sell it as I want to test it for some sort of PPC, nor I consider it a viable business plan, but I was just wondering if a domainer would actually consider buying this kind of name, for say twice the regfee. I mean, people (domainers?) register this type of names every day, even really crappy keywords sometimes. The drops in these subdomains are not (?) monitored and when a premium keyword becomes available I bet many domainers, even from this forum, would be tempted to get their hands on it. An example of this can be forex.gb.com which I hang regged just few weeks ago. Considering the very same keyword sold for $6.000 in uk.net (2007) the gb.com should be worth more than just regfee?

Plenty of dubious supposed sales out there and in 2007 there were even more… There’s a multitude of reason for them… I wonder what forex is atm holding page…? Domain names are cheap even the most expensive are often just a fraction of development cost… Why put in the same effort, time, ££, etc when its not going to happen tens of thousands tld. cctld’s sales against a handful the math’s should tell you it’s a none starter… Try selling one at reg you’d make more money picking up litter when just walking about…
