Wanted: Domain Appraisal LLL .org.uk domains - Appraisal please

I've been wondering what would be a fair price for 3 letter .org.uk domains . I have a few like fsw.org.uk, etc...not grade 'A' domains like abc, but also not unusable ones like zqx...somewhere inbetween!

....any ideas for pricing these domains to end users?

Any info/input would be appreciated.

Paul, not much above reg fee at best at the moment. But defiinitely a good investment for the future. IMHO. I'm holding a fair few of these myself.

My feeling has changed about them. I used to think they might be a good investment. But when you think about it most have been unregistered for all these years. So they are not that valuable.

There will always be a small market, no doubt between domainers and they may slowly increase in value over the years, as the general value of domain names increase. The best you can hope for is that an end user will appear who just cant live without the 3 letter dot org.uk of their name.

Its up to you what you think the chances of that happening are, but I think you might be waiting for a very long time.

My general advice (without seeing the names) is sell for whatever you can get now, unless its a word with some commercial value - then develop it.

Just think, you are waiting for that 3 letter .org.uk to go up from £10 to £20. Thats 100% profit. But I can reg a commercial .co.uk on a high paying key word, build a minisite on it, make £10 quid over the course of a year and possibly every year that the site is in existence.

Interesting points. Personally, I was appraising the names to end users at about £299 each. Do you think I'm way off or does that sound about right?

Being based in Cornwall, I snapped up a few that contained SW..ie swb.org.uk could be South West Builders/Brokers/etc etc.

I think they will be a viable solution to smaller, local based companies who simply cannot afford/obtain the 3 letter .co.uk extension. Im also tempted to hoard a few with the .uk.com extension...they are just sooo darn expensive though..any views on this extension?

This is only my opinion...............

Holding an affordable number of these names as part of a wider portfolio at 3 quid a year, is probably harmless. But renewal fees can add up if you own larger portfolios so if you are holding onto substantial numbers of these types of domains it starts to get expensive.

The way I see it, the great unknown is how long you will have to wait until someone decides that a 3 letter .org.uk that you own is the domain for them - 1 week/ 1 year/ 1 lifetime? Domains consisting of .org.uk and random LLLs are not generic, not .co.uk s and not memorable to the same extent as a one word .co.uk.

Obviously, there are some good LLL .org.uk sales but a tiny proportion of all LLL .org.uk s in existence.

I also question if a 3 letter .org.uk is a good alternative if the 3 letter .co.uk has gone. I think businesses are more likely to be advised to go for a one or two word relevant generic .co.uk or .Com, even.

In my opinion .uk.com should be avoided as I have seen no real market for this extension and is not an 'official' domain name extension.
