I'm a little bit stumped. Someone using our hosted system caught a domain today that is incredibly popular. It didn't drop on 12th as expected to so it was assumed it might drop 7 days later. However it dropped 5 days later. Is this normal? I must admit I struggle with nominet when it comes to drops not going as expected.

The domain was not suspended on the day it was due for some reason.

It was suspended it just didn't drop so I naturally assumed if it was going to drop it would be 7 days later as happens a lot.

The domain was due to go into suspension on 9th Feb but went several days late which obviously caused it to be deleted at a later date.

Ah I see what you mean. Sorry had misunderstood. Thanks.

Happens sometimes if there is some kind of manual intervention on the Nominet side, probably due to business dissolution, issues of ownership, and a few others. It puts a lock on the release mechanism. If there's no resolution to the outstanding issues then the lock is released and it goes onto the release mechanism - I think in the following day's 24hr cycle. Sometimes it can be a couple of days after the normal release day, sometimes months later. Some can be left in limbo for years... i know of dozens that are.

Wasn't incredibly popular. Most would have stopped polling after the drop day so easier to catch. Well done to the person who added it though.

Only going by the number of backorders and hosted chasers on it on the day. Basically everyone :p

Id been chasing it since, but sods law the short window of day I'm not polling it drops

The domain seems to be a fairly common second name & also It's included in a lot of domain names (from doing a brief search), so nice catch and hopefully mr.asset get a decent buyer come along for it.
