Krystal hacked?

I have had a strange email, which says it is from Krystal, about an outstanding payment. The amount they quote is higher than the monthly amount I pay them and they say my PayPal payment is overdue. As far as I know, I don't pay them by PayPal and if I do, there is plenty money in my account to cover it.

It says I should go to their website and pay the amount they are asking for, but I couldn't log in to their site with my usual ID, it said I had to reset my password, which I did and was sent a new password.

This is all very strange and I am reluctant to go in with the new password and give someone my card details, in case they have been hacked in some way.

Anyone else had anything similar?

Regards

Bruce

Sounds more like phishing than hacking, when you hover over the Krystal link in the email, what url does it give you in your status bar? Or what url in the browser did it take you to?

Can you post the full headers from the email you received, xxxxx out your email address first.

Give them a call 0845 075 2002 and check whats going on.

Everything about the emails look genuine, when you hover over the links etc, apart from the wrong amount, payment method, etc, which is why I thought about hacking rather than phishing.

Is that phone number their proper number, I was reluctant to ring the one on their website in case it is wrong as well.

Bruce

I just looked at some cached pages of Krystal's site in Google, and for April 16th it's giving the same 0845 075 2002 number as Mat posted above

If you go straight to their website (not from the email) can you log in using the old password? That would show you were phished.

Tried to ring them at 5.30, but they go home at 5, I'll try in the morning.
Edwin, no, I never use links from email, I went directly to their website, but couldn't log in with my usual password, it said I had to change it.
I have checked back previous invoice and emails, they never seem to give a phone number anywhere, but I confirmed I pay by credit card, not PayPal, and the card is current and has sufficient credit.
Will report when I have spoken to them tomorrow, it could just be a problem with their billing system.
Bruce

That seems to explain everything, thanks. If only they had bothered to mention that in their email.....

I have now dared to open the email attachment and it seems they are charging me a fine of £5 for not making payment by Paypal when I didn't know I had to!

At last, but too late, an email has flooded in.....
Dear Bruce Latto (Omnial Group),
We've finally migrated to a much improved billing system! (and there was much rejoicing!)
The main difference between the 2 systems is that your email address replaces a username. (Now you'll only need to remember your cPanel username!)
IMPORTANT NOTE #1
You will need to reset your password for FIRST TIME entry in to the system (your old password will NOT work)
You can do this by going to; -
www.krystal.co.uk/reset/ (Your email address is the one we sent this email to!)
You may need to check your junk mail for the reset instructions.
(Users with multiple accounts will need to reset for each email address, contact us if you want to merge down accounts.)
All of your personal information, domain names, hosting plans and server packages have been transferred across.
IMPORTANT NOTE #2
The only thing that we couldn't bring over were credit card details, because of the way they were securely encrypted. Therefore, if you had a card on file for subscription billing and would like to set that up again please login (following the password reset directions above first) and update your card details. They will be securely encrypted into the new system for future use.

With a new system comes new features. You can now choose to receive SMS alerts for various conditions that you can configure, and also write a testimonial (with a link back to your site) from the comfort of your own client area!
We've also massively overhauled the site, www.krystal.co.uk including a new animation of the Bunker, where your site is housed, designed by the people who do the Lloyds TSB adverts - www.krystal.co.uk/bunker-datacentre/
We think these changes present a massive leap forward, though we're not done improving. Ultimately, the site and client area are there to make to make your relationship with us as easy and productive as possible and so while we've got our own ideas it'd be great to get a definite idea of what it is YOU need/would like to see. We'd therefore appreciate any feedback you've the time to share with us, just reply to this email.
Finally, we converted Krystal Solutions LLP to Krystal Hosting Ltd on the 6th of April. The change was purely a legal entity shift on the advice of our accountants to better prepare us for the future. The ownership structure hasn't changed at all and nor has our ethos, approach to business or operations and no, we're not planning on selling!
Thank you for your continued custom,
Simon Blackler – Founding Partner

All sorted out now, £5 fine waived, paid by paypal and credit card re-registered for when they start taking them again.

Don't ring the support number, it just says to ring back during office hours, I got through on the other one.

Thanks again.

Bruce

Hey Bruce,

Sorry to hear of your problems. If you have any issues in future please don't hesitate to send me a PM, it comes straight through to my personal e-mail account.

P.S - I've updated the number in my signature, although both numbers will work. we are aiming to get a geographic number sorted shortly, and we will e-mail out when this happens.
