Judgement of what is worth registering?

I have to agree with Alien. I personally don't value long-tail domains, unless they are at the real 'top of the tree' in our local UK...

It never ceases to amaze me - how much a very 'personal focus' dictates registrations (including my own) and it's either an "instant Click traffic winner" or it isn't dictating mentality in the sales arena

I don't make that 'investment' crowd wrong - but it is a sad summary of what really drives uk purchases and sales, and it's very sadly thin outside of that.

anybody that works with both the UK and Gtld market realises it is like an Earth to Mars planetary relationship - (yep it is there and there's an association - but be fu*ked if anybody really understands why)

The Gtld market, is so more beautiful - it sees value in wordart, wordplay, clever contrivance and a dozen other things that attach themselves to 'End markets'

bottom line Stephen -Nope can't see more than one or two of those domains that you've 'Caught / hand reg'd' being on my agenda either - seems like a lot of commitment when October renewals come around again

IMO There was probably a little bit of playful cynicism that went with that post,

Not really, it was a genuine question which i actually pmed him aswell.

My apologies then.. SecNam

* I wont edit my posts- because all-in-all I think them worthwhile critiques (critiques being so much a softer word than Criticisms)

Do you not think this has evolved due to the simple fact every other combination is taken, so you have to get creative or shell out the super high prices ?

You don't see this in .net, .org, which are gtld, and my guess is the reason is the same as you don't in .uk, and I got 100,000,000 reasons why.

ya, I must admit I've been doing a little bit of filthy 5 & 6chr. .com word art regging recently.

I don't think word art/made web-speak works etc really work with any other extension except .com (except for some cctld hacks), which is perhaps why outfits like old brandbucketdotcom might do well if the new TLD launch is a flop :)

People looking to start a global brand on a short .com - there ain't gunna be much left out there soon..

Don't forget there are millions already registered and for sale.
The grass always seems greener.

People need to remember that the best time to invest in anything is when it's rock bottom.
Most people go in at the top.

Very true. Since .UK I just made an effort never to have eggs in one basket again + imho always worth having a bit of everything in portfolio - even dot mobi!

Thanks and always open to offers

Thanks for the range of views and valuations against reg fee!

When ever I have looked through any UK portfolio list for sale, even where the owner is suggested prices over £1,000 a domain, I have found it hard to say I would have registered even 10% of them for reg fee!

Yes the list does cover a wide range of niche's.

But as experiment, if I do sell any I will try and remember to post but on average if they ever sell it is in months / years not days. None sold yet.

If the trend continues, majority sadly will end up not being renewed in 6 or 8 years time.

But in the meantime, we will see if the sales of a few and development of maybe one or 2 domains will be worth the effort and reg / renewal costs of all of them.

Again thanks to all those that contributed.

Remember if you see any domain on the list you like please get in touch, as always open to offers!

Checked the list against .com, free to reg:

FansAndAirConditioning.com
NewbuildHouse.com
GentsHairdresser.com
GentsHairdressers.com
GolfTeesDirect.com
OverseasConveyancing.com
PhotographicRetouching.com
SwimmingPoolDehumidifiers.com

So if the .com is not taken assume wayward decision activity (of sorts).

Do you use the GKT to generate domain ideas? What people punch into search engines and what businesses use for a domain name are two different plays IMO.
