On February 10-13, it.com Domains joined the APTLD 87 (Asia-Pacific Top-Level Domain Name Association) in Hong Kong. Joe Alagna, Chief Strategy Officer, Sergey Gorbunov, Director of Registry Services, Munir Badr, Advisor, and Andrey Insarov, CEO, represented our company at the event.

APTLD is an organization dedicated to TLDs (top-level domains) in the region. The APTLD event is a platform for exchanging information on technological and operational aspects of domain name registration.

APTLD represents the interests of national registries in the region and works closely with international organizations that coordinate the use and development of the Internet. The main goal of the event is to foster skills development among participants and share knowledge about internet domain names.

This year it.com Domains attended the event as a bronze sponsor and introduced its Registry Service Provider (RSP) program. It’s a system for managing domain extensions. With RSP, the domain zone administrator can easily organize the registration of domain names and effectively manage them by confirming, renewing, and canceling registrations. Additionally, they can connect with registrars and accept payments for domains from them.

The four-day event featured a wide range of sessions and discussions. This year’s event was hosted by HKIRC (Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited, a not-for-profit and non-statutory corporation designated by the HKSAR Government to administer the registration of Internet domain names under .hk) in Hong Kong and included panels and presentations on every aspect of operating domains.

Sergey Gorbunov took part as a speaker in the Tiny Suffixes, Big Decisions: Pros and Cons of Open-Use ccTLDs panel, where the impact of ccTLD (country-code top-level domain) suffixes on the domain market was subject to lively discussion. Participants talked about the pros and cons of two approaches to managing domain zones. The first approach allows for the registration of names without any restrictions. In the second approach, there are certain requirements that potential domain name owners must meet in order to register them. For instance, domains in some country zones are only available for registration by residents of the respective countries. As for it.com Domains, our domain suffix has no specific eligibility requirements and behaves like a typical gTLD — this opens doors to global markets.

The event in Hong Kong was a great opportunity to meet major registrars from the APAC region and to promote our registry service provider business among local ccTLD managers and in anticipation of the next round of the ICANN New gTLD (generic top-level domain) Program,

said Sergey Gorbunov.
