What gets said on nom-steer is just the views of a small group who on the whole are very anti domaineer.

Maybe theres a possibility of a waitlist service but only the prime names would get bidded on so 99.9% would still go to the drop.

Are you kidding? I can not believe a dropcatcher like you have a logic like that. When you look at your booking list do you see "prime names" or majority of the names are either crappy or mediocre. People will book a wait list slot eventually for every name that should have dropped. If there is a wait list that basically means the end of dropcatching. Besides If nominet starts tweaking the drop system what will be the auction money used for? Financing a "non-profit" entity?

It is also interesting that this discussion just started after the drop game leveled. Nobody in nominet was throwing ideas of wait list when 2 known tags were swallowing everything.

If nominet starts a wait list I will transfer all my names to one of the retail tags and cancel my membership immediately. There are alot of alternatives to waitlisting and nominet SHOULD ask to dropcatcher tags before killing this business.

If I remember correctly Nominet believe that only 5% of domains are held by 'domainers'. Is it really in Nominets best interest to [It's Members] introduce a system that would cost an awful lot of money to implement then of course the on-going costs for this small percentage of names? Of which the Members would foot the bill. Domainers / Dropcatchers pay their money to Nominet and use their systems to their guidelines and if they are in breach of Nominets T&C will be punished accordingly. As a Member I fail to see the real issue here and shouldn't Nominets best interest be that of its Members rather than Joe Blogs who wishes he could have joe.co.uk but doesn't want to pay the £xxxx needed? Or the Membership fees / Software involved to catch the name if it was dropping?

I found the comparison on Nomsteer to the housing market fit rather well. I wish I bought up as much land in East London 10 years ago as possible(!) I also wish I registered around 100+ domains back in the day. I admire the people who did it in both instances. Risks sometimes pay off and they have in these cases.

I doubt a system like this would be easy to implement and going by how quickly Nominet are at implementing (API?) it should be something in the far distant future...

I guess you meant "their current systems"?!

If you could describe the problems you encountered in a little more detail to Nominet they should be able to fix them.

I fail to see the relationship between your comment and the Subject "charges for transfer"?!

Look in your access logs, what IP visited the contact page at that precise time? Using that IP it might be possible to take an educated guess at the sender by looking at the mail headers from previous nom-steer emails.

Actually this discussion has been ongoing for a very longtime on Nom-steer and way back when drops where being hogged by those two. Im not sure if the subject came up because of that though.

As we all know drops are being caught very even now and for the last six weeks. If Jay can keep reshuffling it so it remains as it is then there would not be a need for an alternative.
