Its been some time since I last asked for an appraisal so its about time. I hand regged this name just a few days ago as I think its a decent keyword in a solid extension that could appeal to people interested in this niche. Also have the .info version.

Any opinions and suggestions most appreciated.

Thanks

Its a good name, irish whiskey has an "e" in it of course, unlike scotch whisky, but perhaps a lot of folk wouldn't realise that.

With correct spelling this type of domain is hard to shift (the number of irish whiskey distilleries only three or four I believe don’t help either) there about brand and nothing else…?

The potential buyers aren't the distilleries but wholesalers, retailers, trade groups. I've had 2 four figure offers for the name in my sig both from wholesalers, but not enough to sell.

IrishWhisky.org - sorry but as it's a typo .org I think it's a reg fee loss.

There different Scotch whisky has the Scotch Whisky Association and they like to pursue any association with “scotch” or even something remotely Scottish see

http://scotchblog.ca/scotch_blog/2009/06/nova-scotia-distiller-wins-9-year-whisky-war.html even though they lost lol

They like to control any association that make s the word “scotch” far more desirable.

The Irish tend to be marketed as “Brand” and less associated Irish” and the Scottish as a “scotch brand” and the "brand" itself

Scotland biggest manufactoring export ? much more competition in the market for wholesalers etc (hundreds of different brands all under the pseudo scotch umbrella as opposed to a handful of Irish)
The “scotch whisky” is also quite a big tourist attraction in itself visiting distilleries etc which is another string to the scotch bow
So I can see why wholesalers and alike might want the scotch but not the irish

The SWA in that instance were going after a company for using the word 'Glen' on their Canadian produced whisky. They are trying to protect Scottish producers from foreign ones who try and infer Scottish-ness in their branding.

It’s just an example of there protectiveness and the above mentioned make the “scotch” more generally desirable hence distributors, wholesalers etc the Irish is far less hence I don’t believe those lower down the chain would be interested in it unlike the scotch,, even with correct spelling

:)

Thanks for your views guys. I know its a typo but it still has 1,900 global exact searches and 320 UK searches (IrishWhiskey has 12,100 and 1,000 respectively) so people look for it even if they spell it wrong. Whats interesting is the the approx. CPC £1.07 v £0,56 in favour of the typo. Well anyway, the worse case scenario is that its gonna end up as a mini site or a storeburst shop... although I'm not sure the latter is a good idea on an .org domain...
