I was reading an article by Rick Schwartz in which he stated the next 5 years in domaining should be very fruitful if you do your homework, specifically he was talking about future domains. An interesting point for me was that he said most of the domains he registers have no traffic but have potential for the future.

Using this logic and as I have a keen interest in camping I registered the following:

inflatable awning/co/uk and /com
inflatable awnings/co/uk and /com

From a camping point of view inflatable tents are becoming popular, there are a few suppliers of inflatable awnings and I feel this will get better in the future as material technology advances. However awnings can be used on homes, cars etc so I feel the names have potential.

What are your opinions on these domains?

Thanks

Aiden

They prob won't enable you to retire early :) but if as you say, there are products that fall under the name meanings then they have prospects (either to a manufacturer/seller or for a site promoting these items).

Good luck with them!

Thanks fish

I think they are for the future; fingers crossed.

They would probably sell as a package which hopefully will raise their value or I might have a go approaching end users?

If you're really serious about their future potential, then you want to pick 1-2 of them and get sites up on them and ranking. That way, if the market grows, you're not selling something where the buyer has to start from scratch, but a pre-formed "top position" on a "top domain". And that's where potentially 2+2>4 in terms of value...

Great advice thank you Edwin.

I think this is the route I will take.

Aiden

Taking the above route what would others do in terms of redirection of one of the domains?

Should I have a .com pointing at a .com IE: awnings pointed at awning or would a .com and a .co.uk combination be better IE awning/com/awning/co/uk

I may have answered my own question here but if any members are outside the UK can you answer this question:

Do you use the word awning or shelter?

Sorry these are not very well explained but I am trying to figure out which is the best combination.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Aiden

It's too niche a product for the domain alone to ever have that much value, but they are fine if you want to build an affiliate site for recurring revenue. IMO of course.
