Gents, wow thanks for all the responses, the site is an article based site, based on a hobby type product, mainly adsense but looking to generate affiliate type income also, currently has a few links to amazon but hate the 1day cookie they offer

I'll also take a look at that template you identify and do a bit of testing on layouts. the hotspot type image is excellent, thanks for that and its defo given me a redesign thought to mirror this type of format.

thanks
Andy

Part one - hobby sites convert really well on Ebay. One of mine does 5 times the adsense it brings in.

Part two - avoid that adsense template - see my previous comment.

Re more traffic - hit me up, and can give you tools an tools you can use over time (free ofcourse - no catch) (I do a LOT of SEO :)

I would suggest avoiding that template

You are aware that it was a picture, not a template?

We were on about conversion rate optimisation hence that picture. I imagion that image by google was created using heatmaps (such as below).

I use heat mapping software on a number of my sites (uses real user data & screen videos to give me the best idea on how to optimize advert positions as-well as click data). It takes quite a bit of nifty software to work these things out, from the cheaper option of crazyegg.com up-to custom solutions).

After-all, theres no point of having lots of traffic if you can't make it convert ;)

EDIT: Also be careful using seo 'tools' to help boost your ranking. If you're on about xrumer, scrapebox (comment posting), seo nuke, bulk link wheel creator, article spinners... they will do more harm than good to your site in the long run.

Hey WW no offense but I know a LOT about SEO.

First that layout you posted was the old adsense layout- research shows that a lot of sites using it were hit by the panda update. That's the reason why google have now suggested the new layout, as they were lured by Aaron Wall for over promoting adsense use.

Second all the "SEO" tools you mentioned are spam and blackhat tools, both of which are unadvisable for noobs, which the OP seems to be to SEO.

I was talking about Research tools available free which the op may not have heard off.

If you want "proof" of my SEO knowledge, pm me.

Seems like someone else has a different opinion to Wigwam and got red-repped. How childish.

It was an accident (I misread the thread). I pm'ed him about 10 seconds later apologizing & saying that I will green rep as soon as it allows me to.

Please can someone give Tafuta some green rep as I can't re-rep him :)

One thing you could do which will help is go to your Google Webmaster Tools, then to your site on the web/search queries section and have a look at the search queries you are ranking for. Ignore the top 2 or 3 and make a note of the next 10 you are starting to climb with. Then build some new, unique content based on and optimised for those terms.

For example, lets say "blue widgets" is your top click-through result, and "big blue widgets" is second. Further down the list you may notice your position is climbing for "buy blue widgets", "widgets blue", "coloured widgets" etc. Build some optimised, quality content for those and link back to your front page using your main "blue widgets".

After you have built your content, do some link-building using your new terms directly to those optimised pages, using the term in the link.

Make sure your sitemap is constantly updated with your new content and once you have finished, you should continually monitor your SQ positioning in GWT. Continue to build content for every page that is beginning to climb but still has a low click-through rate.

Finally I would say whilst the Google Keyword Tool is useful, don't worry too much about being too exact with terms in there or the numbers displayed. Google's algorithm is perfectly capable of distinguishing variants and subterms.

To the OP, could you not try and build some community or user driven content from the traffic? Might find this will be another long term source of traffic and diversify you from just search based.
