OUCH ! had another look at that vid to see what exactly went on and realised that as the lads leg hits the wall you actully hear it his bones crunching

The victim did what he could / had to, to stop the rat. End of story.

To say that his defense was 'too harsh' is frankly, bollocks. If it hadn't finished there who's to say how it could've ended. If the fat kid had been able to land a punch on the bully I'm pretty sure the bigger bully would've stepped in too. As it was, the bigger bully thought better of it - especially when the girl told him to leave it.

If the chubster hadn't put an end to things right then, he could've ended up getting the crap kicked out of him.

If you catch a burgler in your house, would you add up the value of the stuff he's got in his hands and meter out a beating in proportion to that value, or would you defend yourself and your property with a view that the guy might be willing to kill you to escape?

If the little rat got permanent damage from it - tough luck. Brought it on himself; no one else to blame - can't blame the fat kid, he was only doing what he had to, whereas he was doing something he shouldn't and he knows he shouldn't regardless of his history.

Let's be honest, i'm more than sure that the whole gang kicked the crap out of that chubby kid till he was half dead at some point after this incident.

I'm sure they didn't - bullies don't bully people that fight back.

Watch it again mate, the bigger bully goes after the poor kid :-|

A bully won't bully someone who hits back, but a group of bullies couldn't give 2 hoots if you fight back. In fact, it makes the whole situation that little bit more fun for them to kick 10 shades out of you.

Don't agree. I'm not saying that individual cases don't happen that way, but ultimately bullies are cowards who don't want to get hurt and would sooner pick on someone they think won't stand up to them.

In this case, they (the rats friends) didn't retaliate instinctively to avenge their friends beating (one guy made a couple of steps towards chubby, but stopped short - didn't want to get shown up himself) so chances are, they never will.

Did you not see the 'one guy' follow 'chubby' afterwards?

Yes, I mentioned it in the post above yours. And what did he do? Nothing - nadda. He stopped; thought about what might happen, and did nothing. Which proves what I said, doesn't it?

Please actually watch the video again. He goes after the guy again after the girl stops him, watch the video to the end.

Er, ok. So can you tell me what you see because all I see at the end of that is taller bully going in the same general direction as chubster. Do you see something else? What was your point?

"SYDNEY, Australia (WUSA) -- A video of a teen body-slamming a bully has gotten the world's attention.

The boy's name is Casey Heynes. According to reports, Heynes had been bullied by a group of boys at Chifley College High School in St. Mary's, Australia for a while.

The video shows two bullies throwing punches at Heynes, before he grabs the second boy and slams him to the ground.

A spokeswoman for the NSW Department of Education and Training at Chifley College, Dunheved Campus, the Australian high school said, "does not tolerate any violence and deals with all cases according to its community-agreed discipline code". "Both students in a fight at the school shown on the Internet have been suspended ... the only injury sustained was a grazed knee.""

From all accounts, Casey is a hit on Facebook now.

I'm joining this late but in a world where any one can pull out a knife (or gun where I live), if being attacked I'm gonna keep fighting (with as much force as possible) without worrying about the other person's long term or short term health.

I'd much rather not care and be alive/unharmed than be caring and hurt/dead.

When someone being attacked cares about he safety of the attacker, they have already lost the fight. The attacker doesn't care about how the punch to the face could leave the kid blind. How the punch to the face could make the kid fall over, hit his head and die. So when someone fights back why should we feel that he was too rough?

Well, like I've already said, I don't.

Anyone else here stood up to a bully in the past - what happened afterwards?
From personal experience after 18 months of bullying at school and on the bus to and from school, I'd had enough and went for one of the bullys. Only hit him three times but it was enough. Even though his pals didn't witness it, they must've heard about it because I never got one more bit of trouble.

Last thing a bully wants is to be shown up infront of their peers. If there's even a remote chance of that they'll move onto a different target, or stop altogether.

Well said Woop Woop, obviously if someone breaks into your house and you cut their head it could be seen as OTT but I always say that any burglar or mugger will do anything to avoid a 5 to 10 year prison sentence so you confront them then you need to defend hard and heavy and it's the same with bullies, let them bully you and you get it worse or relaliate hard and heavy and they won't try it again usually.

As for that report saying nothing more than a grazed knee, I don't believe that, look how the skinny rat walks afterwards or tries to should I say.

I was about the smallest in my year and the biggest give me hassle so I retaliated by kicking him hard in the stomach and ended up with 5 stitches to my head where he launched me to the floor and my glasses smashed into my head, it was bad but I have no regrets sticking up for myself that day.

"You beat Nicky with fists he comes back with a bat. You beat him with a knife he comes back with a gun. And if you beat him with a gun you better kill him because he'll be coming back and back until one of you is dead."
