Hypnotherapy dot net

Just secured this domain and I'm very happy with it. I know enough about the area to develop but also see potential in a re-sale, appreciate thoughts of my fellow domainers....

In terms of do I like the domain as a "brand", yes I do.

Can you make a healthy resale? Quite difficult. The money making potential is there, but hard to convince a buyer of this.

What about development? Yes, there is big potential. Just put together a strong "What is hypnotherapy?" site and then sell advertising directly yourself. Do some YouTube videos, that's important. I think you could make some decent money that way. One of the problems is that potential advertisers will be local not national, but there are likely to be some top providers that target the whole nation and would like to advertise.

Good luck.

Thanks for the thoughts...I'm pondering whether to go for the US or UK market on this one, obv the US has bigger potential but would also require more work. The domain does have good linking history, may even get some traffic. If you look on web archive you can see it was owned by a Californian hypnotherapist for many years.

When developing sites, I prefer targetting the UK, because it's easier to know what's going on culturally here. The US may seem like a big market, and I guess it is, but lots of British companies or say rock bands, fail to make it there because it's so vast, and they can't get "traction".

Now you've regged the domain, you're effectively up against the various societies/insititutes/councils that exist, just search on "British Hypnotherapy".

It's not an easy dev but rev potential may be there, the question is how willing are hypnotherapists to spend on advertising. It's like attempting to start a TV channel just about hypnotherapy.

If you were already undecided and all the back links are from American link sources, that would be the decision made for me. Stay with what it was.

Looks like I'm up against .org.uk's and hyphens - should be easy! (joke)

You're right though, good solid sites with content. I have trained in nlp/hypno so I do have good insight into the area, think I need a bit of a USP....

Thank you for the thought Monkey, definitely something to think about before embarking

Some thoughts:

The way to make real money from the hypnotherapy sector is to devise an e-product that you can sell online, e.g. ebook, or perhaps a DVD.

To make money, you need to target your offering to particular problems people have, e.g. quit smoking, save your relationship, cure a fear etc etc.

Possible potential from really good informational site and then you can invite advertisers.

Your domain is a nice domain, but a straight domain sale is not easy as the real money is in the above and folks can just go ahead and choose a brand for that.

Well, that was interesting, I put it on SEDO, just to check visitor rates rather than expecting a buyer. The BIN was £5000 and within two days it had sold :) Obviously curious what more I could have got for it, but quite chuffed with a name I paid £xxx for....

Thanks for the update and congratulations on the sale. I would say that is a respectable sale for a .net, and whilst there might have been a little more headroom, that's still a nice sale that you've got to be pleased with.
