Just got about finishing off adding content to my new site, havent intergrated any feeds into the 'browse hotel, featured hotels' or links on homepage to search by areas yet.

anyway

http://www.peakdistricthotels.co.uk

Opinions please :)

I like the clean uncluttered layout Max and especially like the logo, good job.

You may want to change line 494 in your css :

Do away with margin-bottom: 6px; and replace with margin: 10px;

That will sort out your paragraphs which look to be a bit justified to the left.

Good luck with it, nice site.

Great looking site Max and a very nice domain name to put it on

Arr did wander how to change that :) will do that , thanks

Also yep will change the $ to £ :)

firefox + mac

you need horizontal spaces - text is too close to left and right borders

Max I see you've tried to change the CSS but changed just the pixels..

Line 494 -Scrap {margin-bottom: 10px;}

And replace with just {margin: 10px;}

Emm forget that, just noticed that it adds a scroll bar to the bottom of the left search box, instead add to the bottom of your stylesheet:

p {
margin:10px;
}

h1,h2,h3,h4 {
margin-left: 10px;
}

Very nice - agree with comments about the logo. V pretty.

When I looked there was a problem with the search on the left hand side

<td><a href="#" class="style2">Buxton</a></td>
<td class="tr"><small>17 hotel</small></td>

...and the same on the other towns.

Maybe you were working on this part of the site at the time.

Where are you sourcing your hotel feeds from?

I only had a quick look at the homepage, but I spotted quite a few typos & grammatical errors.

E.g.

'We are the only UK site dedicated to Peak District hotels , this means we can offer you the biggest range of hotels in the Peak District than anyone else.'

'If your after a Peak District Hotel'

'it's natural beauty, tranqual walks'

spelling etc isnt my strong point i need to run it all through a spell check really, cheers for picking these up for me will change them

Its not just spelling though, that copy isn't going to be fixed with a spell check. Its poorly written throughout. If you have big aims for this site I'd pay someone to rewrite it all properly.

My own writing is garbage too, so any "real" site I'm working on I'll order properly written content for it. I think you should do the same. In all honesty, some of it is painful to read. Maybe you've just went overboard on trying to get lots of specific words/phrases onto the page, I'm not sure.

We are one of the only sites dedicated to hotels in the Peak District

We are the only UK site dedicated to Peak District hotels

Both can't be true, you need to either stick with the lie all the way through, or get rid of that.

I think the site logo, and the centered image ad below it are good. In comparison, the green map looks like it was done in paint. There has to be a better map of the area available to use, surely.

We are an independent company

If you're an independant company, then you'd list your company number and address, contact info and so on on the site. Without any of that, it just makes me think garbage affil site without any value add. If you want people to pay you for listings then you're going to need to provide way more than you are right now.

Also, what reason do people have to pay you? Maybe there is a great one, but I can't find it on the site. You need to tell people how many visitors you get, or you rank first for "peak district hotels", or you can send x leads for month, or something. Right now it just looks like I'm throwing away £49 to a bedroom webmaster and getting zero in return. I appreciate I'm probably not your target market though, but more and more people who run businesses are web savvy and they are going to be asking those questions.

Why are you sending visitors to the official peak district twitter account? If you do that, and they click the url field on the twitter page, you've just sent them off to another site. I assumed it'd be your own twitter page when I clicked it. Seems silly to send them off your site like that. If you want to link to that twitter I'd at least tell people what it is before they click.

the site is brand new so at moment the content up there is purely for google and to get it listed, thus no facts about visitors , where it ranks as these aren't available as its new.

Once ive seo'd it up, link built,etc and got it ranking for terms and traffic to a reasonable level I will then finish it off with listing prices, facts, figures, 100% content, better maps etc

This isn't my main project on the go and it's a side project and dont have time to do all this now.
