Nice to hear my caught domains frank.co.uk and boomerang.co.uk mentioned a few times :)

:D :D congratulations!!! great job!! Would you like to join us at some future streams?

Helmuc you are doing a great job giving up your time to promote UK domains and services. I hope that HostMaria is getting plenty of business.

This was an interesting discussion and look forward to seeing new innovations for the .uk space. I think one area that could be exploited is relevant parking ads. When we started out Sedo provided very attractive landing pages with highly relevant ads (most of the time) appearing directly on the landing page. Why can't anyone do that any more? Why can't a domain like BusinessMortgages.uk be parked with ads from a few uk business mortgage providers showing prominently to anyone landing on the page, but with an attractive design that shows it is for sale. I've tried most of the parking options, and they never show highly relevant ads (i.e. ones that exactly match the keywords in the domain) directly on the landing page - you often get irrelevant and obscure options appearing which frankly look awful, and just devalue a decent domain. So if you can sort that out Ryan you'd be on to a winner.

It seems impossible to find an advertising network to implement your own parked ads. If you could get an ad aggregator to provide ppc ads (or even per impression) with some kind of api you could easily create your own but I guess they worry too much about fraud.

Didn't anybody else find it interesting that Ryan said the reason that he wanted to buy flip.uk last year was basically to buy the exclusive rights for every dropping name from Nominet for 5 years and every name would then go through flip??

I am not sure, as somebody who currently partakes in catching, that I would want to support a platform that has ambitions on obtaining a monopoly on dropping names and ultimately bring an end to dropcatching. Around 33:20 in case you guys missed it.

I cannot agree here, there was a lot of discussion and debate on which option Nominet should go down, but a lot of members agreed a first come, first served basis should be maintained.

Before flip.uk launched, I looked at setting up my own, but flip.uk beat me too it, so diverted my attention on my drop catching instead.

If flip.uk changes direction, I will probably reserect my previous project of a responsive auction platform.

I think it is unfair to use language like 'build off the back of catchers' and 'stab in the back' - i tried to give an independent view on opportunities and other marketplaces to acquire domains from - like NameSilo etc to be all inclusive so your comments are really unfair.

To be fair here, in .com and other gTLDs, Registrars can sell off domains that their registrants have not renewed. That's not the same as an exclusive deal in selling everything Nominet is dropping though.

Something like mortgageadvisor-com.

We are looking at AI to understand the context of the domain name but that will be V2. We are also looking at logo creation as part of brandable.

Hi Ryan

That's not really the type of landing page I was thinking of. Just a simple, neat looking landing page with a few relevant ads. For example I'll take one of your own domains as an example - and the parking service you are using is one of the better ones. But for the keywords in your domain 'Probate Lawyers' (I won't put up the extension but you'll know the one) the three 'Related searches' appearing today are:

Pension Plans
Debt Relief
Bankruptcy Lawyer

How can that be good for the visitor, your earnings, or the parking provider? Presumably if a visitor lands on your domain it is highly likely that visitor will be looking for a 'probate lawyer'. That's why I've given up on parking. I've tried many times and I don't understand why the ad provider can't give us three relevant ads that help you, the visitor and the parking provider - and help sell the domain - by showing it's potential. Probate Lawyers is a high bid keyword with plenty of advertisers on google - so you can't say it is obscure.

Good to know you're on to this. So you are serving up your own ads on this test? With your experience in financial sector I would think you are in a good position to find advertisers for finance, insurance and legal services in the UK. Must be a great opportunity. However I imagine that as soon as direct relevant ads start appearing the other ad providers, will suddenly, after many years of serving irrelevant ads, find a solution.

3) Affiliate based domain parking

I have had conversations with Amazon about product picking based on AI for domain parking

Had a bit of a mess around, have previously had built a fairly good recommendation engine for internal use on some of our projects which made this fairly simple.

Layout all built with chatGPT. Product relations to the term waterfeatures.co.uk and using a product feed from Awin. Used a smaller sample of approved merchants rather than a full feed (simply because didn't need to).

Wouldn't take long for there to actually be a half-decent site that has relevant featured brands/products through an affiliate model.

This is great - i am focussing more on 1 page domain parking basically because i don't want to risk google penalties with GPTcontent - if you don't use GPT then the cost goes up & if you get blacklisted by google then the domain is worthless.

I do think there is a band of domains where this system would be a better solution & its really positive that there will be multiple options for people.

ChatGPT was just for the template - I'm not a developer so asked it to output the layout of the page. None of the recommendations are using GPT (but do require a fairly hefty GPU to run the models).

Everything under "Featured Water Feature Retailers" are affiliate brands that match the term. Everything under the "Featured Water Feature Products" is most relevant products from a database of 5.7m affiliate products.

Expanded my messing around a lil bit, able to generate against a key term of "car insurance"

Or a more niche offering of Caravan insurance:

For clarity, the insurance links are done based on title only, if I were to focus on this project you'd need to collect a little bit more content about each affiliate.

Definitely scope out there for a much more improved parking experience (and earnings) for people than the typical ad-based landing pages.
