OK, I'm hitting the phones 9 o'clock Monday morning, would anyone care to provide tips on which department, person to ask for? how to go about the offer / pitch and words to include? list benefits, provide trust in an instant etc.

I played a part in retail / tele sales once or twice, (trainer, supervisor, boss) so I can do this, I don't want to but I need to raise cash by Friday and that's the deadline I've given myself a target to get a certain amount in, we're talking four figures. I will sell domains next week either on here or by phone so if you're interested I suggest you ignore previous prices as I've been mugging myself, hit a little higher, email me and they're yours.

I'm serious, I need to sell so any tips before I start out re the above, obviously bypassing the battle axe secretary is a must.

I not sure if its as easy as hitting the phones?

finding the right person is like you point out going to be the most important target.

I would depending on the values you hope to achieve limit your approaches to a certain size of company. If you're after mega bucks than larger companies of the BT, BA magnitude are going to be your targets but their infrastructure is going to make it harder to pin down the person responsible and get a decision by friday - so i would forget the mega bucks!

You'd be better approaching smaller companies where the people who can make decisions are easily contactable and can make the decision without having a board meeting about it - trouble is industry need a lot of educating about the values and long term investment in a decent or related domain name. You'll probally need to do some investigating and see if they already invest in various domains - these are going to be your best chance.

I know it can proved difficult but your best chance of selling a large number of domains quickly is here. Traders on this board already have the funds to hand and realise the values (or not) of your domains. If you are "in a position to off load some domains that are excess to requirements" (note the wording - not desperate) then advertise or approach members.

No approach is a 'sure thing' but any advertising is good advertising - other boards, your own website - other peoples websites? You have to remember domains aren't bread - people dont want them all the time and sometimes you can just be unlucky.

on the phones again the words you use will be subject to how well educated you believe the person on the other end is? you might hit someone who knows a lot more than you think.

good luck
;)

I've made quite a few sales by searching Google with the domain name and seeing what companies it points you to. You then have to find the right person at the company and contact them. They will assume that it is a scam, but I have had about a 10% success rate. People will trust you a lot more if you have fixed prices.

The problem is that it's slow, time consuming and there are very few companies that will pay quickly. I gave up, because 'stack them high, sell them cheap' works much better.

If you really want to unload domains in a hurry, try offering a big discount on bulk purchases. eg 30% on over £2000. Again this does mean that you will have to fix the prices.

(I think that says much the same as Charlie. Great minds etc.)

Thanks for the feedback, yes it's not going to be easy but pro active is better than no active and I have been active on here to the point of annoying perhaps but I'm sure admin is pleased one way or the other. Since I've been posting that part of the forum has come on leaps and bounds. ;)

I'm pretty sure I've got one domain sale in the last hour so the week has started early. If I can find headway on the phone and do a couple of sales then I'll be happy, I'll do my research tonight and tomorrow and devise a script and will go at loggerheads with secretaries around the country.

I've gone out of my way to sell on here but I'm annoying myself so will stop and find other means, there's more than one way to sell yourself and that doesn't mean you have to sell to the devil and the lowest price. By hitting the phones I meant just that, picking it up and having a go, it's amazing what people buy when they don't want anything, so hopefuly when it's something they're actually interested in then both part happy.

You're right about supply and demand, there isn't one, just a case of can I wait out and buy cheaper and can someone get him the money he needs and I might buy it off them later before it gets to an end user who believes in what they're being sold and told they need, kind of thing. I fully understand that.

on the phones again the words you use will be subject to how well educated you believe the person on the other end is? you might hit someone who knows a lot more than you think.

That would be great if they know what they're talking about and know more than me, I'm not out to deceive or lie, what's the point? I am an honest individual just wanting to make headway and deliver the right product to the right end user / buyer at a price right for both and ensure both parties are happy, I've had no complaints yet. Well one comment that I forget to sign confirmation form but that was sorted in ten seconds with nominet and wasn't a problem.

Re comments on offloading domains in an hurry, the reason I listed so many was to provide an opportunity to bring money in quicker not necessarily get rid of them all, as soon as I get the required funds I'll ease off but if people are interested, they can make anonymous enquiries or the like or just be upfront and say I'd be willing to pay this amount for that or all those, no one need rip anyone's arm off, we're all out to benefit in the pre, mid and aftersale.

It's heartening to hear you've had some success FC so I'll remember that when it comes to the 1000th "what you on about son...?" 10% is bloody good as it goes, you should go into sales haha  it does come down to research though and right end user buyer. It's understandable. I haven't had much luck on the email front because it doesn't get to the right destination in most cases, one email got me a DRS but even that was a laugh.

GO FOR IT - No doubt this new 'growth period' will yield you some rewards...

Don't be too hard on yourself, you've done well...

Congratulations on your sales to date...

Lee you're a Legend. You've got the best attitude mate. Hope you have a really fruitful week. I am done with emailing as it just gets deleted as spam. Have written quite a few letters. I think a letter, then a follow up call for me. anyhow good luck. Guy

Lee, my advice would be to send a letter out to a targeted group of people (get their names by posing as a data gathering company) and then follow it up over the phone. Letters rather than e-mails followed up over the phone work well. I've been in IT sales for nearly five years now so I have a pretty good idea.

E-mails work OK if the person is expecting it, i.e they are already your customer or a prospect you have spoken to. For example you may speak to one guy and say "would you mind if I contact you from time to time", then when he gets an e-mail from you it goes down as "permission marketing" (the best kind).

End of a company's financial year is also a great time to hit people with this as they want to ship some money out to lessen their tax bill.

As with all sales campaigns - a) it's a numbers game - the more calls you make the luckier you will get and b) targaeting is key, right contacts will yield much higher results than random calling of poor data.

no I'm full of rubbish.

I didn't fancy it today, I'm just waiting for this cash for the domain I sold over the weekend and I'll feel happier and more full of myself again. I have some new inspirational ideas though so that's money in the bank in the future, I've got everyone from the UK to Pakistan working on it now.

I don't need to work this week but as soon as this money comes in it's out the door again with a little banked so it aint all bad but I will get on the phones as to get out of this country I need to work 24/7, the phones won't be easy but have to be tried.

Letters are a good idea as well and possibly a better option so I'll think on that too. I think once you get past the "aint got to worry about drs anymore" the world's your oysters.org.uk. I always do things at my own pace but when you're the boss you can I suppose. Thanks for asking.

Cheers
Lee

Are you trying to leave the UK? Is this what you're goal is?

My goal is to be happy and earn money, earn money and be happy, I fancy going abroad for a bit, maybe a lot longer, I have to keep telling myself as I wasn't motivated enough last year to do it, this time I am, by 24th December I will at least be camping in wales haha

I'm just about to turn forty and my two children are now grown up so my wife and me have considered selling up and moving abroad. Peoples priorities are all wrong in the UK, we work too many hours just to keep a roof over our heads and that seems crazy to me, putting food in your mouth yeah but not a roof over your head.

I'm doing it the other way round from you, I just turned 29 and realised I'm still alive haha I don't like work but I enjoy what I do which is an hobby more than anything - I gets very bored inbetween, I just want to earn enough, get the girl I'm after and get abroad, any order... you don't need a lot to live abroad just need a lot to live here, I need to live again.

I've had a good couple of years business wise once I figured out what I was doing, trouble is I peed a lot up the wall - as you do and literally as I am 'wall but I've realised I have actually got good business sense when I need to, I am in the right games making the right moves so anything I want to achieve is possible if my heart is in it.

And at the moment my hearts aiming for the girl, living abroad and being more of a success. At least that's the plan. I've never done things the right way round but I usually get there in the end. Confidence, motivation and an heart beat haha what a nutter.

Might as well be on a beach somewhere catching the drops...

Sure you must have them parked but, if not, PM me and I'll send you a SedoPro invite...
