Help,

I don't know anything about .com catching expiry rules etc. can anyone explain how it works...?

A friend wants a domain which expired on 25-jan-2009, may not get renewed (means somehting to him but wouldn't have thought that sought after) and be free to reg, can anyone help re when it's likley to be available is it a fixed date like co.uk's, is it possible to book it?

any help reallly all a complete mystery to me these .coms ;)

Thanks

Dave

There's no set rules really with .com, other than the start (like the .uk renewl required period) and the end bit (5 days redemption before the actual drop) but the times inbetween vary.

Its better to use a third party catcher.

Its like a shark pitt :)

Thanks for the info, I remember why I stick to uk's now.

I've passed the info on and I think he's gonna take his chances and just keep an eye on it, unlikley to be that sought after so he's got a reasonable chance of registering it when it goes.

Thanks

Dave

They also have partner ships between registrars so certain catchers are guarantee'd the catch.

You really have

GoDaddy
NameJet
SnapNames
Pool.com

Not many others.

Anyone know where a .com registered with Tucows INC is most likely to be caught?

Namejet or Snap names, they have deals with diff parts of Tucows, I don't know the details just what I read.

You need to book with Snap, Pool and Namejet anyway just to be sure :)

Smells a bit dodgy to me, all these parnerships. Maybe the .uk arena should still count itself lucky it hasn't been driven down the same route. Are there individual catchers for .coms then? I can't see how they would stand a chance!

.com catching is an inter-registry monopoly and there is no room for the individual software developer/domainer.

It would have made a great April Fools joke wouldn't it - Nominet are pleased to announce an exclusive partnership with Sedo to auction off expiring domains... Just imagine that, it makes me ill just thinking about it :-(

It's coming... just like football's coming...!

Soon as the goverment see forrest for all these bloody tree's and the pot of gold that is the .uk registry and realise how inept nominet are, these partnerships will come.

I hope not Skinner

Redbird : if the .com not likely to be caught by anyone then why not just place a backorder with a registrar, these do backorders Domain Name Registration - Bulk Discount Domain Names & .Tel Domain Name Registration Services

The redemption peroid is around 70 days after expiry date.

Good Luck ;)
