HeartInternet Renewal Nightmare

Choice is yours, however £400 + £100/year (and you'd claim this back as a running cost of the business when you did the accounts) seems a very low price to me for ultimate control over my domains and those of my customers. I'd have thought that a few of your "lost" domains would pay the Nominet bills, however I'm only trying to offer technical advise, not how to run your business.

Good luck.

Maybe I'll get membership then, see how the month goes. I just want to clear my overdraft and take this girl out. i just dont need the hassle, moving websites at the moment, thought domains would be easy but turned out difficult.

acorn tag holder

Looks like an opportunity for an acorn tag holder to offer all of the services that bulk domainers want without becoming tagholders themselves.
A monthly service charge or a slightly higher reg fee would be worth the peace of mind.

What services do people want and how much would they pay though? Places like 123, Heart and so on are only just above reg fee and therefore difficult to compete with, proper service costs and my experience suggests that many people just want to pay the minimum possible rather than shell out for some service as well.

I Reg domains on my tag then normally tranfer them to fasthosts. Their control panel is great and easy to administer your domains. If you want to renew a domain it will automatically. If you don't want to renew you can set it to expire. I'm not a programmer so don't have a bespoke system which means it's a pain to modify details when domains are on my tag. I don't want to have to encrypt messages to change nameservers etc so doing it on ukreg is simple.

ukreg are *******, still aint got my password.

You can name any company and you'll get at least half a dozen slate or applaud. I've had no issues with ukreg but personally think 123-reg and heart are crap when it comes to customer service.

ukreg are the same, wont even phone me to give me password. Id hit them if I could.

Just out of interest, how do you manage a domains tag when the tag (HEART) is being stubborn and uncoperative? asking me to sift through all my domains and tell them which to put back even though they have the list in front of them. I've written to nominet so hopefully they can help.

and it's not right, a registrar should allow a registrant full and easy access to the domains they have regged without hampering or getting in their way or failing to disclose domains on their tag at request or removing domains from sight and making it nigh on impossible to manage a domain until the last minute. Have they broken any rules as a registrar, does anyone know?

Nothing glaringly obvious in the registrar agreement that has been broken.

For the bargain bucket web hosting market, then I'd suggest that deletion of anything not renewed would be completely normal practise to save their systems from being clogged with lots of old accounts, generally the budget end of the market suffers a lot of "churn" at renewal time as people move on to save a few pence. I'd suggest from a web host's perspective that Heart are not doing anything wrong, for most of their customers would renew any domains they want within the Heart billing cycle, you can still renew your domains manually through them, so your not being denied access.

You know how much you pay for a domain, you know the Nominet fees, you know the approximate PayPal / Visa transaction fees, now do the maths, would you leave your systems cluttering up with non-renewed domains?

Bottom line is that Heart have setup their systems to automate most of the functions needed to sell domains and host them in volume to the budget end of the hosting market, they have already told you how their systems work and that they are not changing them, so why not move on or work within their limitations? After all domaining is not a traditional market and most have their own systems and TAG's, so hardly worth making an investment to service a handfull of specialist customers who are likely to get their own TAG at some point and move everything away.

Look, I just got a lot on at the moment and I didnt need the hassle. I transferred several hundred domains out of a perfectly acceptable, perfect renewal system at 123reg to the hell that is heartinternet's renewal system. I'm moving 150 websites, i'm trying to sell, earn, do things, and yesterday was breaking point but you get up and you start again.

Their system is inadequate but has by far the best offerings in my view, just renewals lets them down, every domainer I talk to says it's an absolute shambles what they're doing in deleting domains during suspension. But no fear, I will manually and bulk check the whois and find out, even though I'm sure one click and HI could do it themselves they have the request capacity, I do not.

I'll get there but one thing about stress is... don't keep it in, let it out, want to swear, swear, want to have an arguement, have a row, or you'll die of an heart attack.

I'm not up for a fight or defending Heart, just trying to show some perspective, their system has obviously been designed for a general budget hosting, probably based on the most used features from places like 123. Your wanting different features from their mass market. It's a pain in the butt for you, but is not going to change.

Why not put your domains into a spreadsheet and sort be renewal date?

If you have a list without dates, I'll run them through the DAC for you and get dates if that will help.

I'm manually doing whois at the moment, but using bulk as well. Thanks for offer, if I run out of proxy I'll accept and I didn't mean have a row with you, I mean let it out. I work on my own, if I aint go me football to shout at, I got to scream sometime, makes me feel better.

I've seen that you're quite vocal on other threads :) - Just trying to get you out of a hole and allow you to move on that's all.

I have to take the kids to school soon, however PM me a list if you need to and I'll take a look later this morning.
