GoDaddy seems set to get a renewed and relaxed .xxx registry contract, after ICANN dismissed the concerns of critics of the deal. In a much-delayed analysis of submissions to a recent public comment period, Org indicated that it is in favor of GoDaddy, via subsidiary ICM Registry, migrating to a Registry Agreement much more in […]

John Berryhill left an inteersting comment that it would be interesting to know xxx numbers > protective registrations vs ordinary domain registrations..

.. why is the .xxx passed to some other company at all?

And, what will happen to .sex, .porn and .adult? .. they seem all to be coming from the ICM stable of x TLDs.

checked the "accredited registrar" list at ICM Registry @ https://icmregistry.biz/registrars/ and noticed Nominet among them:

McCarthy is executive director of the International Foundation For Online Responsibility, the non-profit set up by .xxx registry ICM to hack around ICANN’s rules and give the illusion of legitimacy in the 2003 “sponsored” gTLD application round.

As such, he’s paid indirectly by GoDaddy, ICM’s current owner, which can’t have hurt his prospects in the election but GoDaddy says it did not vote in the election. Under Nominet’s controversial voting system, larger registrars get more votes, capped at 3% of the total."

"With McCarthy standing on a platform of increased transparency, some Nominet members had pointed out the irony that IFFOR hadn’t published any board minutes in several years. He also faced criticism for using Nominet’s logo, apparently without permission, in his election mailshots."

Kieren is a non-executive Director of Nominet - this position probably shouldn't be confused with executive Directors who hold real decision-making power :)

Thank you for mentioning IFFOR (I actually wasn’t aware of it). It seems they work on registration and abuse policies exclusively for the .xxx TLD only.. it would be cool getting them to the next Domain Summit :)

Good morning @Kieren, do you mind asking you: is Nominet a .xxx registrar? I couldn't find any references online, but the ICM page of accredited registrars prominently displays Nominet’s logo: https://icmregistry.biz/registrars/

.. knowing how cautious Nominet is with the use of their logo, there must be something to this…

:) personally, I like seeing UK individuals, companies, and organizations actively participating in global entities - it's really cool!

also, @Kieren, do you have any links to past (publicly available) data on .xxx registration numbers? Tx

xxx is a very strong tld, we can't deny it.. and a very good business asset.
