Free SEO - the results

Selling it as writeup of the process would not work. Everyone knows that junk links pointed to 5 word exact match domains, or phrases that nobody is searching for, or optimising for, will show you moderate movement. You would not be telling anyone anything they didn't know already.

If you want to make money from it then the only way ahead is to sell it as a service. At least that saves people having to do the low level things themselves... it is better for an seo to outsource it, forget about it and get on with some real work instead.

You would only be able to charge 20p a submission though -

Hi Rampage,

Back again to continue being a pain in the arse? Forgotten already what happened last time?

As everyone here knows, you can't achieve good rankings from social bookmarking "services" like in the list you posted above.

The reason we chose social bookmarks is because they are generally accepted as useless for SEO, we used them to prove what we do works even with that kind of link.

Why did you just pick the longer tailed site? What about baby shop?

It jumped 7 or 8 pages for "nursery equipment" with just 20 social bookmarking links when the site isn't even optimised for the phrase.

Did you forget that one or is it just inconvenient to mention that one when you're just here to be a troll again?

And remember what happened to those payday loans sites with just 20 links each the last time you started.

Why are you determined to just try and put a downer on what we're doing no matter what, even with results, and insist it doesn't work?

If you had any sense at all you'd be able to see that it could actually help you and save you a small fortune on all of the spammy links and blog posts you're paying for now.

Firstly I'm not Rampage but I'll play along and answer your questions. If my responses encourage you into trying to meddle with the payday search results again I'm going to gain from it anyway so feel free

I think those services I linked to will work equally as well as you ones you are posting about. They won't rank you page 1 for anything of value, but they will probably move you from nowhere at all, to somewhere near competing. Assuming the keywords are uncompetitive.

"Nursery Equipment" just wasn't a good phrase to test on, imho. 700 searches a month and none of the companies on page 1 trying to rank for it. Something has to rank for that phrase though - so might as well be the site with 20 low value anchor text's, than anything else.

I am not trying to put a downer on it - but if you are going to do rather dubious testing and ignore facts when it suits you then you need to accept that people are going to post about it. You were offered significantly better/fairer sites to run the tests on - you choice not to so the peanut gallery are going to speculate why.

Why not do a control group. Pick another similar site for your test and buy $30 of links from one of those links I said, using the same uncompetitive phrase. That way you can show whether your bookmarks are any better or worse than the Indian ones. Without that, all you done was proved you could win a race that only had 1 horse in it.

Or you could just go back to threats to harm other peoples sites, whatever works

you have almost exactly the same tone as Rampage, are as abrasive and irritating as he was, use smileys in your posts like he did (rather unconvincingly), and are saying exactly the same things.

Add to that the fact you've only made 3 posts and they're all on my threads and 2+2 looks like 4.

Anyway, I didn't threaten to do anything to any sites in any niche, funny you should mention it.

Is it something you're worried about?

If you think the bookmarking links will do well and/or you want to cast doubts on what we're doing then YOU go and run a test and prove what you're saying has any merit instead of just attacking us.

Hi,

I'm finding this post interesting, it's good to see some of the other ideas being suggested.

To a certain degree nursery equipment isn't the most competitive keyword but there is no denying the jump from page has been significant. I would very much like a test to be run on 'nursery furniture' or 'nursery furniture sets' with the same method to see if this jumps from nowhere to somehwre near competitive. Is this something you'd consider Dashu?

I would be interested to see if any of the other methods for social bookmarking work as this is an area of interest for me in my efforts.

THIS IS NOT A TEST OF SOCIAL BOOKMARKING SITES!!!!!

We have chosen to use SB 's simply because there is a general belief that they are useless for SEO.

Generally we do not use them, except for "padding out" or diversifying the link footprint. Our aim is to prove that our methods work whether it's a SB or otherwise.

However, our assertion is that 99.9% of people do not understand what Google is looking for, and that our methodology is 100% in tune with what Google need to rank a site higher.

Although the suggestion is made here that x,y, or z keyword is not competitive enough, I'd like to see someone achieve the same results from common or garden bookmarking links - we all know it isn't achievable.

The sites chosen were for a mix of reasons, they weren't going to please everyone, but I get the feeling that some people wouldn't be pleased no matter what because they've already decided that it can't work otherwise they wouldn't be spending £thousands on links each month.

Which is silly, it could save them a lot of money and time and effort.

We can all read and believe in this or that gurus "beliefs" but beliefs fade into obscurity when compared to the thesis that has been written by actual engineers who's work has been bought by Google and incorporated into the algorithm.

If we can understand the thesis and what it intends to achieve, then we can tailor our efforts to match the requirement exactly, which in turn provides us with a far more effective solution for a fraction of the cost at a fractionof the effort.

It's has no on site seo really performed and would not have had any link building at all to this particular area of the web site.

The keyword: 'nursery furniture' or 'nursery furniture sets' would be good keywords to use.

I'm not sure what page on Google these terms are positioned so i guess it'd be useful if someone has a tool which can giove an exact position before starting and then you can prove your methods to some of the doubters.

I must admit, i'm usually skeptical but you've proved you can move the site on the 'nursery equipment' keyword, it'll be interesting if the same results are experienced.

One of those services listed in my post before last. It won't matter who you buy them from really. The cheapest way to do it will be to go to one of the webmaster forums like Warrior Forum etc - every bookmarking service is going to have the exact same result.

I'll say what I said before this experiment started: I'd like to see this done on a site that has been optimised and had some link building done already, but has plateaued in the rankings - say on page 2 or 3 of Google.

This is going to work on a fairly short term basis for sites which have few or no backlinks to start with. As far as selling it goes - there will be some people who fall for it, and some cases where people believe it works, simply because any links would have pushed the site up in that situation. There's nothing special about social bookmarking links that will provide a golden opportunity for you to 'sell the secret' on any kind of scale. 20 social bookmarking links is going to have little/no effect on any site which already has a thousand links or more to a variety of different domains.

When you mentioned heavy research and looking at patents, I expected (hoped) it to be an extremely tightened approach where you'd build 20 links based on factors such as a specific scientific degree of relevancy of the backlink to the target website, statistical and correlation mappings of worth, structured timing of link building for best results and so on. Not sure what you have that is actually different from any other service at the moment to be honest.

Right oh, my order for 20 bookmarks is done for Cartoon Characters, it cost $5.

Will see how if affects results. I was on Page 1 Google for 'cartoon characters' up until a week or so ago and for some reason I've dropped to Page 2. Will see what happens.
