Forum becoming unusable?

Lets face it, bin the sales and there is nothing else here.

I check other places before AD now regarding domains and that wasnt the case.

Perhaps dig stats on most replied debates etc, see who was posting and what about.

Then ask where they are now and why thats not happening now?

Its sad when people refer to acorn as a car boot, but it didnt always have that reputation.

might start using a4u again its got that bad here lately

I think the premium section of the forum should be changed. It doesn't seem that there are that many true premiums left that are wanting to sell to domainers at reseller prices. This can be seen by the fact that only one or so new domains appears here each week and half of the time it is a .org.uk.

My opinion is that it would work better if we reduced the requirement on a domain's value to day £500. It obviously isn't working as it is considering the complete lack of activity in there.

Ha, it's worth saying though that forums do come and go. a4u has IMHO jumped the shark.

Before acorn there was detagged, and in a way acorn came about as that one went...

We have the internet. We have places to go. We don't like it we go to other places. Simple really unless you're the kind of person that expects people to do as *you* please - for that ask your parents. Either way this place is not for you. Bye.

BTW your choice of forum will not make your domains any more valuable. Put away the credit card, step back from your computer, and I'll have fries with that burger please :)

I've been purchasing quite a few domains recently - only really because they're priced pretty low.

If you had members posting their entire portfolio - potential buyers would have to contact the seller about a particular domain and it doesn't take a genius to work out what will happen to the price....

It's a buyers market at the moment so sales will totally disappear without ad-hoc domain sale threads.

There's no magical fix for the lack of buyers.

The problem is everyone wants to sell. Sadly 99.99% of the domains are atrocious. You can't please them all admin. Either they get a clue or they moan. Thankfully those with a clue still love their handful of forums (including this). The rest moan and go broke.

Well here's my twopennorth.
I'm not a real domainer, but I'm a regular visitor, occasional poster and occasional buyer and seller. I think the forum's pretty good. People who keep on bumping their for sale threads are a bit annoying, and my own pet gripe is .co websites for sale in the .uk board.
I had thought that some sort of way that people can permanently advertise their for sale domains would be good. Sometimes i get half way through a massive list of domains and find it was the same list I looked through a month ago!
I personally have no time for a forum where people are slagging eachother off - something that mercifully seems to happen a bit less on the threads I've read recently.

Why not just ignore the sales part Edwin? Who are you to tell people not to buy and sell?

I think its always the normal moaners worrying about themselves, i say go and promote some of your domains and you will have less time to moan about everyone elses business.

And there is always Dale Hubbards failed effort of a Domain Forum. :D
I don't post here unless I am addressed personally, which Sean Flynn has seen fit to do above. Sean, just because you've been taken to task over there for some of your inane tomfoolery doesn't make it a 'failed effort'. It just equates to 'sour grapes' on your part.

Tell you what I'm sick off, non exclusive members moaning about how they want this and that, jesus ! it's a free forum, if you want changes sign up as an exclusive member, how's about exclusive members get voting rights or something.

I am not exclusive therefore don't complain, it surprises me at just how many people on here can buy domains for high £££s or even ££££s but not pay out just £9 per month, I don't have money but very much appreciate being able use Acorn without a forced fee.

How about an Acorn appreciation day or an Alan appreciation day, I know he gets a hard time from his family about Acorn yet he is still here.

Why don't people just take it for what it is ?

Well said Doodle. Admin, I for one would like to thank you for all the hard work you put into the forum. I think you have done a great job and if it were mine, I would feel proud of what I had accomplished. And now I shall remove my tongue from your arse!

This isnt an ad, so hope it remains, as its a useful model!

Experienced People is a new high quality forum, and I put that down to to strong no-BS modding in terms of cruft and crap. Post just a LOL or something, and its gets binned. Post it a few times and you get binned. Dont post for a while and you get booted out of VIP.

Good forum posts are split off into new threads to keep debates separate and ongoing, much like pruning a tree.

Due to the 'no nonsense' approach the quality of content is very high, and perhaps best of all is trustworthy.

The incentive there is to post and to post quality or not bother.

Its a hell of alot of effort, but seeing it grow from nothing to what it is indicates its working well.

Are others on any other forums that do things well?

Ohh no it's a hyphenated .net. Noone from AD will want to use it anyway!

I don't think so - not at all... In the most part, this is a very active , healthy forum.

I think the reputation isn't really working at the moment - if you look at a forum like BlackHatWorld, it works very well - people want to get their rep up and post quality to do so..

Some kind of 'thanks' system would work.

I was disappointed with the exclusive section - I think only 4 or 5 posts were made in that section for the whole year I was a member and I didn't learn anything from it.

Oh - and you need more mods, I'd get experts to look after different sections of the forum.

You DEFINITELY should not go and I also agree with Posh that a new rep system would work.... IMO! As it stands everyone either has 6 green bars, 1 or have red (as far as I can tell).

Maybe I'll just ban new members from asking for Appraisals as that's what seems to be getting people's backs up lately.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Admin

Good idea.

Maybe appraisals could be restricted by the same criteria as you apply to Premium Domains. Most people don't really care if a poor domain is worth £0, £10 or £50, but are interested in valuing stronger domains.

Re interesting new content.

Maybe Admin could select 10 or so old threads that provoked useful debate and which were highly informative and resurrect them as "Super Stickys" in some way (like a good blog brings its best old content to the top of the pile from time to time).

The internet moves on and some of these subjects would be worth revisiting for many members.
