Hi,

I usually develop my domains and use them for B2B Projects. Therefore I do mostly keep industrial names. When moving between Projects domains are parked with sedo to “clear” any Search Engine things, IPs, etc.

So I did park the fineorganics.co.uk. BTW “fine organics” is one of the most widely used term in organic chemical compounds search.

Within just few minutes (???) I had an offer of 50 quid for it. It is way to low but could you tell me what attracted a potential buyer to it? I know virtually everyone in the UK who does chemical eMarketing and it is not them.

I am a bit surprised and just want to know what potential, other than chemical, the domain has and what it worth undeveloped.

With sedo there's an ability to watch for words, it's possible someone was watching 'organic' and received an email alert, either that or domcollect wants to buy it, sedo's sister company. The word 'fine' is related to food and adds value more than the likes of 'simply', a bit like 'luxury'.

There's a ltd company on the hyphen who also have fineorganicslimited.co.uk - perhaps it's them who made the bid and have been watching it for ten years although they're showing an update date of March 2009, but had the longer name since 2008. There's also a different company on the com.

Brilliant! Thanks a lot. I never realised that common chemical search term could be of interest to so many unrelated companies.

Quick check showed a… chemical company! And I’ve never heard of them. Weird, huh… I have the domain since early 2001 and used it on several occasions for keyword forwarding on some projects. Well looks like, they have a “generic eCommerce guy” doing chemical eMarketing… 50 quid for the most searched organic chemistry keyword combination??? Who they think I am? Just thoughts…

Edited. Scrap that, Lee's post covered it.

Click the "about the buyer" link via Sedo. If the account was created OCT 09 – it almost certainly is fine chem ltd behind the bid, imo.

Cheers Rob. Account dated October 2009 ;)

Name is generic and I do like using it im my work. Still they might think I am into different market and I don't know how much it's worth in the chemical industry.

[fine organics] gets 270 exact match UK searches and 720 broad match UK searches per month according to the new keyword tool...

50 quid for the most searched organic chemistry keyword combination?...

[organic chemistry] gets 8,300 & 45,000 respectively......

I probably didn’t explain myself well enough. Talking about organic chemistry I was talking about the Industry. The keyword combination (organic chemistry) you are mentioning, for the industry is useless and will bring you a bunch of college kids looking to do their essays online. No chemical buyer would ever use that search. Meanwhile combination “fine organics” is the broadest search used by buyers of organic chemical compounds. This is B2B, people, it doesn’t work the usual way. 270 potential buyers it’s a lot.

It seems to me that you know the value of this domain better than most of us do. With a good domain in such a specialised area and with companies rather than individuals showing an interest I would think you should be looking for 10x the £50 offer you have recieved.

Thanks Lufc. The thing is – I don’t have a clue about how undeveloped domains are generally valued. This is why I thought that it was of interest of someone outside my industry and was wandering what could cause such interest for this combination of words and it’s value.
