Well, I'm usually always thinking about and its the wrong time of the year. This time, I am determined to reduce the expense of my renewals, especially since the sales and revenue is not as good as it was. So any do's or don't for signing up. I.e. should I use a company, individual etc etc or any other general advice that you can think of?

If you dont intend to hold domains for anyone else then just go for self managed. It means you don't have to supply customer contact points and terms of service , methods for complaints etc . It means you can only have 5 nominated addresses/people attached to your domains at any one point, but generally seems fine if its just your domains you intend to hold.

You can always use your dac/epp quota for catching as a bit of side income ;)

Cost is the same for all the tag types and you can have multiple tags if you wish, I have a self managed and the original tag from years back. The requirements for the middle level tag are quite easy to comply with, the top level really needs a bigger company wrapped around it to work properly though.

As mentioned above, wait until August and apply to save a few quid, but the process should be quite straightforward these days. As for using a company or signing up as an individual, entirely up to you, Nominet are happy with all types of members.

Welcome to the club :)

I'm now a fully paid up member! I've been to AGM's and stuff before, yonks ago, but looking forward to now being part of the .uk community and looking forward to savings some money.

One thing I have not managed to find on the control panel is where I will find the TAG, basically I want to save money by using my own TAG, but I do not find this on my control panel.

Did you apply for a TAG? It's a long time since I applied, but I think the membership and the TAG were different applications (you can be a TAG holder without being a member)

Applying for a tag is free, but they totally stiff you for £97 ish for a 1 year .co.uk renewal. To become a paid up nominet member is around £450 for the first year iirc then less for following years as theres no admin charge. .co.uk renewals are then around £5 iirc

I'm now a paid up member, with the attempt to save some money on this damn habit of collecting domain names! I really need therapy. It's sort of like lottery numbers, the fear of missing out on a big ticket win kills the motivate to drop a whole load of them.
