This wasn't a case of false details showing up on the whois, just dropcatcher being too slow. Yes there is a chance they could catch a domain for you, you just need a lot of luck.

I have to say that they've caught many good names for me, and still beat me now and again. Even with my own system, its always comforting to know there's still a 2nd chance option to either get the name you want for a knockdown price, or to have it as a backup in the event of a hardware failure at my end.
