Double tragedy

Ha, makes you wonder if today's catcher of gay.org.uk will actually be able to use it without straying on the wrong side of one law or another?

Looks like he shares his apartment block with denys

What is the difference between:

A travel company who call themselves "gay only" and actively try and discriminate against against straight people. Loads of companies doing this, Google "gay holidays".

A hotel discriminating in the other direction, and trying to avoid gay people becoming their customers. Someone tried it, ended up paying damages of £1800 each to the people refused rooms.

Too many people want equality.... but only when it suits them.
Businesses should be allowed to discriminate against whoever they want (and endure the financial repercussions of it) or we should have (and enforce) true equality. If Black police officers can have their own association, maybe white ones should too?

I think there's a difference between stating something, and it actually being an enforced policy. For instance, there are gay clubs, but tonnes of straight people go to them. If somebody is actually turned away as a result of being straight and has evidence of this, they would win any action they took against the venue, because it's illegal.

Of course the reality of the situation is that straight people were, by far, more welcome in such venues than gay people were in straight venues. Maybe that is still the case to a lesser extent. If a large groups of gay people turned up to the average pub or club, I think a fair amount of time there wouldn't be a positive outcome to that. That gives us insights into why such venues exist in the first place. A univeristy friend DJ, was talking about having to DJ at a "gay friendly" night at a local club. I found the phrasing interesting, as it implies that if gays turned up on any other day they might expect to receive negative attention from others. It feeds back into my previous comments.

I expect in time, when people actually get beyond hating each other for arbitrary reasons, venues implying exclusivity will die out.

I care little for what holiday firms, venues advertise themsleves as. Their branding is their business. I do however care if they break the law. Any business actively excluding people at point of service on the grounds that they are gay, straight, black, white or whatever should be made an example of. I would exclude support groups though, as clearly they deal with specific needs to people.

Also, you're overlooking the fact that there are many types of holiday packages aimed at specific groups. 18-30 holidays, family holidays, OAP cruises etc. These are no different as the implication is that the holiday is not suited to people outside of these groupings.
