Speaker Announcement: Nigel Roberts Joins Domain Summit Europe 2025

We’re pleased to announce that Nigel Roberts, founder of Island Networks®, will be joining Domain Summit Europe 2025 as a first-time speaker.

Founded in 1996, Island Networks® operates the top-level domains .GG and .JE, providing services to registrants, registrars, and registries worldwide. The company also provides technical registry services for .AS (American Samoa) and consultancy for other domain registries globally.

Nigel holds a Computing Science degree from Essex University, is a Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of the BCS (Chartered Institute for IT). In 2008, he earned a Qualifying Law Degree (LL.B).

In 1997, Nigel ran as a Parliamentary candidate in the UK General Election for Ipswich. Following that, he moved to Alderney and served as a member of the States of Alderney from 2002 to 2003.

He also has interests in cryptocurrencies and analogue electronic music.

We’re pleased to welcome back Freddy Schiwek , a respected figure in the hosting and domain world, as a speaker at Domain Summit Europe 2025.

@freddy (contact him here at Acorn) served as CEO of Zonat Sàrl, overseeing Luxhosting, Hosting.co.uk, and MonsterHost. These brands were acquired by World Host Group in December 2023, with the deal officially announced on 2 January 2024.

In August 2024, Freddy began his role as Manager of Business Development at Namespace Holding S.A., where he works closely on the growth of Hosting.de.

He previously held the position of EVP at EuroDNS, with a strong track record in scaling hosting businesses across Europe.

In his role at Sparkling, he collaborates closely with ICANN and AFNIC to ensure the .alsace domain flourishes, reinforcing its status as a vital tool for regional identity. Prior to leading Sparkling, Benjamin headed the .alsace project for Region Grand Est, guiding its development with precision and foresight.

A web industry stalwart since 1998, he honed his skills as a consultant for SdV Plurimedia, a French web agency and hosting centre, building a robust foundation in digital services. With a Master’s in Marketing and International Management from Centre MIM in Strasbourg, he blends academic rigour with practical know-how.

Beyond Sparkling, Benjamin co-organises NDDcamp in Paris and Strasbourg, championing domain industry discourse, and served on the Afnic Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2022, shaping France’s digital policies.

Making his Domain Summit debut, Benjamin will offer a compelling look at the GeoTLD landscape, rooted in his leadership of .alsace since its inception in 2015. Raedene joined Tucows in 2021 following the acquisition of UNR Registry, where she excelled as Chief Operating Officer, bringing a wealth of operational finesse. With more than 20 years in the domain name industry, her career is marked by pivotal roles, including Head of Policy and ccTLD Practice Manager at CentralNic Group plc, where she influenced domain governance and strategy.

Called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1995, licensed as an Attorney in California, and a Certified Practitioner of Data Protection (EU & UK), Raedene combines legal expertise with a profound understanding of the domain sector. She now leads Tucows Registry, part of a company founded in 1993 as a shareware pioneer. Tucows has since grown into a global registry leader, managing over 20 million domains, running TLDs such as .club, .online, and .design, and serving as a trusted backend provider for registries worldwide, supporting a diverse range of gTLDs and ccTLDs with technical excellence.

I am proud to introduce @JimDavies , Intellectual Property Solicitor at 360 Law Group, as a returning speaker at Domain Summit Europe 2025!

With a foot in both the UK and Australia, Jim shines at 360 Law Group, a UK-registered global virtual law firm staffed solely by Solicitors, Barristers, and Overseas Attorneys with over 5 years’ qualification - many having held Partner roles at top-tier global firms or served as General Counsel. Their low-overhead model ensures some of the profession’s most competitive rates, all while delivering uncompromised excellence.

Jim’s path began at Cambridge, studying science and law, followed by training at a Lincoln’s Inn firm where he focused on intellectual property. Early on, he made waves representing the French wine industry, securing “champagne” in a Court of Appeal triumph that redefined passing off law. He then stepped away from practice to run UK government-funded legal training in Romania and an IT security business in London, before returning with a razor-sharp focus on internet law, domain disputes, trademarks, and commercial advice. After 15 years in Perth with firms like Wrays IP and Elevation Legal, he’s back in London, a titan in UK domain law.

Jim’s career sparkles with wins - defending MySpace.co.uk pre-social media boom, clinching Bounce.co.uk with a process critique that drew an apology, and thwarting ThePhoenixGroup.co.uk’s FTSE 100 challenge. In trademarks, he’s axed FURNITURELAND for non-use and outmaneuvered CASINO DINO’s bad faith claim. A former Nominet director, he helped steer .uk policy, and as OpenUK’s Company Secretary, he brings seasoned wit to governance.

Outside law, he’s refereed rugby (teammates played top-tier), ran a student entertainment venture, and cherishes live bands and comedy in cosy venues - proud father of three. His summit session will weave tales of domain duels, IP mastery, and legal strategy, a must-hear for domain buffs, registry leaders, and entrepreneurs.

We’re delighted to present Joe Alagna , Chief Strategy Officer at it.com Domains , as a brilliant speaker at Domain Summit Europe 2025!

Joe’s spent over two decades in the domain game, with a cracking CV - Vice President at 101domain, Channel Director at Afilias (now part of Identity Digital), and General Manager for North American Markets at CentralNic (now part of Team Internet). In 2012, he helped pen 60 successful new gTLD applications, like .xyz, .club, and .app, giving the internet a proper boost.

Now at it.com Domains, he’s supporting businesses big and small with their domain solutions.

Joe’s passion kicked off in 1999, sparked while he was a National Accounts Manager at AT&T Wireless, diving into domains as a “domainer” - snapping them up as virtual property to buy, sell, and park for profit, a move that helped power Google and Yahoo’s early days (and still matters today). He also sat on the Domain Name Association’s Executive Board, shaping the industry’s course.

Joe’s watched the domain world transform - once split into registries and registrars (all about policy and ICANN), domainers (profit-driven traders), and hosting techies (server wizards who built big firms). Now, those worlds overlap - registrars turn domainer, domainers become registrars, and hosting’s often part of the package. From Afilias’ registry and DNS work (pre-acquisition) to his current gig, Joe’s been at the heart of this shift.
