Do people STILL think .uk will have its day?

I don't have any problem with that either. If you want to double or triple your price because .uk is included then you're free to do so. But at least tell people from the outset or offer it then from the outset at a fair price. Don't keep quite, let them build their .co.uk business up and then come out of the woodwork a few years later.

But that you are talking about is selling pairs of domains, co.uk + .uk end users have told me when offering them that they are not interested as they do not see the value, but I can.. so in time they come back and say.. ok well we must have it now, so what then say ok here you are free of charge. Business cannot run that way.

No, I'm not saying that. If they've been given the chance at the start then so be it. If you want to charge them the same as the .co.uk further down the line then so be it. My only issue is with keeping quiet, purposely at the start of the deal.

If a buyer is 100% informed (either already knowing or you telling him) about .uk and decides he doesn't want it, then thats great. Its absolutely his own fault if it comes back to bite him on the ass later on.

If a buyer comes along and offers £10,000 for a co.uk domain and doesn't mention anything at all about the .uk.... I think its unfair to just take his money and keep the .uk for yourself in the hope you can gouge him again further down the line.

I've already seen all the excuses though from a past thread so I don't need to see them again. Buyer should do due diligence, it wasn't actually illegal, etc etc.

Exactly.

I see and understand what you mean. although that can pose problems in itself i will explain why;

1: end users emails to buy co.uk agree a price of £2,000 - at what point then do you say, ive got the .uk aswell here for another £350 if you want, - the deal can then go a few ways, he then gets pissed off and demands both as part of the deal, he goes stale thinking its getting far to compicted, thus loosing out on the whole deal.
Ofcourse the best case is the buyer says ill pay the extra £350 as i can see they are two seperate extensions.

I am talking about domains after 10th of june 2014

I think you have a price in mind for the pair and say, the price is £2,000 for the .co.uk + uk but if you just want the .co.uk it's £1600 or whatever pricing model you're working to.

In 10 years time Monkey co.uk will be long gone.

Or if you were wary of over complicating and then losing the sale you could simply sell him the .co.uk for £1800. And once the money is in the bank you could say do you want the .uk for £200 more.

Its not exactly a 100% transparent way to do it but it would at least let the buyer then make an informed choice/gamble on whether he wanted to throw you a few quid more right now, or take the gamble and see if .uk collapses completely or he gets gouged for £5000 6 years from now.

Yes thats another way of doing it and an aproach I am trying but getting mixed results as many end users are just not interested in the .uk.

Yep one recent buyer monkey I said if you want to take a ganble £75 on a 495 domain, he thought about it asked his designer and they both said no they didnt want it, so everything was ok.

I could easily see some circumstances in where people buy a £5000 .co.uk domain today and end up getting gouged for £100,000 and forced into paying it a few years down the line.

I haven't seen the email sent by Nom. Guess I should check spam then yeah?!

Never received the mail either, guess I wasn't part of the 2.something million people who received the mail

The more I think about this, the more it seems impossible that .uk can have its day. The release mechanism is such that most registrations will be defensive and .uk will just be an hidden inconvenience.

If we had to have direct.uk then the Nominet board should have had the balls to release it using the same mechanism they did with the single and two character names. At least that would have given the extension a fighting chance.

edit:

Just to be clear, I'd have been mad as hell if they had released it the same way as the short domains but it's the only way I can see where it would have stood a chance.

Do you mean basically open auctions ?

There would have been a huge amount of legitimate businesses bullied into paying absolute fortunes for their .uk if that were the case. Ones with no obvious trademark right. For example Elephant.co.uk, Orange.co.uk, Apple.co.uk

Oh lord remember the old days of the pre-noms it was like catching great big bags of cash from the air, I cannot wait for those days to return with .uk

Ive just thought of something, isnt this the same as having the forsight to register apple.co.uk back in 1992 then sit on it until apple comes along and then fleece them for as much as you can?

This has been happening since the start of domains

Its not even close to the same, but I don't think I have the patience to explain it if you can't already see that :)
