Wanted: Domain Appraisal DiscountVouchers.net

Well, I'm reading this thread with interest because I own:

DiscountVouchers.tv
DiscountVoucher.tv

At the moment people don't seem to get that excited by the .tv extension, but I've always liked it. With Google targetting the living room TV screen with Google TV, I feel the extension has a bright future.

With the amount Doug will / has been spending on marketing, you will not be able to compete with that on the domain, and infact you would lose in brand traffic to him.

Flip it to some opportunist and wish them the best of luck!

Would you then also say I cannot compete with Doug on the .org? I'm doing just fine so far I think, its early days but this is a ranking report of 650 keywords like "merchant name discount codes" and so on. The numbers on the left are how many a site has in that position, the number on the right is the change in the last 30 days.

.net kills it -5k max. (i'd be happy)

DiscountCode.tv

To print or not to print - is the question ? , Can't see 'voucher' working in the .tv extension myself

nice looking tool, what is it?

I own a few magazine ones, and one x net which is Magazine Subscription

I'm told its in the top 10 of google on .com, was last week..

Frog, I think you can compete at this stage, but listening to dougs inteview, and ASAP's other properties, I get the impression ASAPs budget exceeds yours and longtail you might get a few, but I think he will take most with type in and main 'discount vouchers' result with his marketing.

I don't think it is a bad domain, and I think you could net quite a nice sum for yourself, which I think you should do, as opposed to building and trying to compete on the same term.

I suspect the key to the voucher code sites is the mailing list they build up.

From memory Doug's list is in the hundred of thousands, all of whom will receive an email each week telling them about the latest great deals.

Mally - I think the tool is http://www.advancedwebranking.com/

Doug undeniably has more money than me :D Our full portfolio of websites makes probably 50% of what dv.co.uk makes alone - and thats obviously not ASAP's only site. That alone wouldn't worry me though - I've competed with and outranked FTSE companies on an extremely limited budget in the past.

To be honest we're both taking different approaches to things, about the only thing in common is a similar domain. I'm trying to rank for as many keywords as possible, and dougs tactic seems to be branding and building a mailing list. For me, SEO is the number 1 tactic.

Sure, but without ranking the site for something in the first place (or using PPC) you can't build the mailing list. We will obviously have a mailing list too, but right now its not key to our plans. Outranking MVC is.

Yup, thats it. Absolutely brilliant tool. Not even just for tracking how you are doing yourself, but for seeing trends in the niche. From that report I can see that both promotionalcodes.org.uk and vouchercodes.com took an absolute pounding in the search results over the last month - they dropped rankings across the board. So the next thing I need to do is find out why, and avoid doing similar :)
