If the welsh get like the Irish are over .ie or the Channel Islands about .je and whatever the other is, then could be on something. However much like .ie/je is geo-limited. So bigger companies are unlikely to want them. Its same as .com>.co,uk>.uk, only now we have .com>.co.uk>.uk>.wales in order.

Has potential but is geolimited.

With the welsh government moving over may well be worth seeing if you can get the public sector interested maybe someone from this group

The risk being that the casual user will see .wales as used by authorities/organisations rather than retailers, blogs etc.

I suppose that is a risk with the wider market but I can actually see this extension taking a bit of traction within wales now.

Skinners right the Irish love there .ie and I can see this going the same way with the welsh.

If you have a nice one like rich is holding public sector money is as good as anyone else's I suppose

I just need to find some welsh mobile phone and computing entrepreneur's now

Research has shown over 70% of Welsh consumers would prefer to use a .wales tld over any other.
What research ?

It's not the first time we hear this propaganda.

But assume for a moment this is actually true. For people to actually visit .wales websites, businesses have to a) buy them, b) use them, c) advertise them.

Nothing will happen until then.

Catalonia has had its own .cat for years, but while in Barcelona I was under the impression that it was nonetheless less popular than .es and .com. More typically used for official/institutional websites => which suggests that geoTLDs are driven by politicians.
And we are talking about a region that is looking to break away from Spain.

What kind of thriving geoTLDs do we have so far ?

If you're going to say something is interesting why not tell us why? You might find it interesting for different reasons than others! :)

It's interesting to know that their upping their game with the web/digital and not letting it pass them by - will be interesting to see what what services they offer from it and if they venture with other .wales. :)

Okay. It'll probably resolve to their existing web site and they won't bother using it for email at a guess.

I think a better guess would be that they will put visitcardiff.com or similar on the domain, given what has happened with various other Welsh council and government websites.

The digital approach of Welsh government agencies has improved dramatically of late.

For what it's worth *anyone* here could have bought a seat in any of the premium domain name .wales/.cymru auctions earlier this year. I think it was £50 per premium domain name auction to do so and I presume Rob Taylor did because he has personally secured swansea.wales and newport.wales, while tweeting the amount cardiff.wales was apparently won at auction for (he'd have known if he himself participated in the auction). He might well have secured those two in the face of no other competition.

Looks like Rob got News.Wales as well, Markmonitor protected whois

Yes, News.Wales is very nice. I can see this domain doing pretty well. I didn't buy any .wales, but good luck to those that did.

Do you work with rob from the news domain? I only ask as the outdoor pair you are selling has his details on one of them?

Is it going to be like the popular Wrexham site?
