dieselemissionsscandal.com and .co.uk, I've also registered dieselemissionsclaims.co.uk.

With 1.2m effected VW cars in the UK we can expect to see lots of legal claims in the coming months.

Legal claims from who?

Good luck with the domains but personally I think your chances of selling them, when all factors are considered, are slim. It's just not going to be a big marketing term.

I don't understand the growing view that VW owners are likely to have a case against the car makers. It's all very different from PPI.

Firstly, you'd have to have concrete evidence that you bought the car purely on the low emissions basis - correct me if I am wrong but there are cars out there with lower emissions than VW, so that argument could be shot down easily.

Secondly, any fines or financial liability is likely to be claimed by Governments, testing agencies, etc - although i'd want answers on how those carrying out the tests were defeated. There will be a clause or disclaimer in that which will have official backing in the view that they don't have to pay compensation to drivers beyond recall / replace / fix.

Thirdly, how many actually own the VW models in question clear rather than them being financed by banks or leased?

VW have clearly been up to no good, but i'm not seeing the margin for VW owners and drivers to launch huge claims. if someone can tell me where i'm seeing it wrong, happy days for the owners of domains like this.

We own an affected model and we've registered with one of the group action solicitor firms. Ditto my wife's sister.

The logic of any claim is a combination of higher emissions and fuel consumption, higher road tax, worse performance, and/or lower resale value.

At this stage, we don't know the impact of the remedial work. Apparently the 2.0 litre engine only needs a software update - but I find it hard to believe they'll do that without impacting on one or more of the above.

Interesting that the letters sent to VW customers in the US included an apology, but not those sent to customers in the UK.

I say anyone claiming should also pay the additional road tax (and insurance) they should have paid :D Unless purchased specifically on the reasons of emissions (company cars etc) then it is just another way of claiming compensation. Blame claim etc.

(obviously some will have a legitimate cause for claiming).

Sorry Ian, but that's bullshit. I've never "claimed" for a thing in my life. Not compensation, not benefits, nothing.

Tried selling one of the affected cars recently? The residuals and demand for VWs are a big part of why we bought ours.

Hadn't seen your post before making mine, just was a general comment about claiming and the domain being appraised. If you have a genuine reason to claim, like you've been trying to sell your car etc then fair enough, hope you have some success.

Sorry to thread hijack but I have an affected Tiguan and phoned the special VW helpline.

It was laughable. Nobody has a clue it's clearly and outsourced emergency call centre.
