deleted thread....?

dosnt matter how many forums there is, if people cant be bothered to read the simple rules of posting a thread in the right area then the thread will be moved/removed on any forum.

Being a forum mod is a thankless task :(

I'm not a mod here, but am a mod on a few other forums and apply similar rules.

I think my postings obey the rules, but nevertheless a fair number of them have disappeared over the years without explanation, and I'm certainly not alone in this. It's something that happens frequently on AD, and demonstrates a considerable lack of respect for the members.

If you're going to moderate someone at least take it seriously and explain what they did wrong, or they'll probably do it again and cost you more of your precious time.

As i said above as this is done on a voluntry basis why should i spend/waste time pming members who dont read the rules? it simple, read the rules, post in the right areas and your posts wont be removed/deleted.

I have alot of respect for members here and value everyones support in posting to the forum. What i dont have is free time to start explaining simple things to members every 5 minutes who should know better, who should be able to use a forum and dont have respect for other fellow members by not following rules.

On the surface this argument makes sense. However it sure leaves a bad taste when you post a considered, apparently rule-abiding message to the forum and it just disappears without explanation.

It takes a bit of effort to make a post here, but significantly less effort for a moderator to hit his delete key.

I dont delete posts willy nilly and for the record i do pm people from time to time as other memebrs know. It also takes alot of effort to moderate the forum.

Have you ever asked for a thread pull-down?

Have you ever asked for a thread pull-down?

I once asked for a post to be removed that 'outed' a private catch I was looking for, and also a sales thread that I'd started (but I can't remember the details of that one).

Those are the only ones I recall off-hand. Why do you ask?

Cheers,

P.

Seems to me you just want to big up the new forum you keep mentioning, I know exactly what you are referring to but won't name it here as that's just promoting it.

If you don't like it here you are welcome to make your choice, let me know if you want your account removed.

Thanks

Seems to me you need to get over having had a message deleted in the past. I did so once and it got removed but i certainly don't grudge admin for it, infact it made me realise why it had been removed in the first place.

I can't really understand why anyone would be so uptight over this, it seems the disrespect here lies with you and your attitude to the mods who you think should pander to your demands over a what is really a trivial matter.

Like they have said they do have other more important things in their lives to be attending to.

Glad to see you appreciate our efforts, thank you.

As with anything here, if you have a query we will always do our best to put it right as soon as possible it's just a matter of communication.

Not at all, just hoping that the added competition results in better things for everyone concerned.

just saying....

In a similar vein I noticed some fairly derogatory comments regarding the 'influx of newbs', "with large no-hoper portfolios". Shortly after the thread was pulled.

In my limited experience running a couple of forums several years back (share trading based), without a trickle of new blood the content tends to get a little stale and then becomes toxic, and as other potential members read through post after post of folk threatening to kill each other, calling each other a cock, or in this case a bunch of replies telling me my 'big mac happy meal' priced surplus domains were worthless and as such I was an idiot... is gonna kind of put folk off joining maybe buying domains here or even taking the advice seriously.

I think that particular thread was canned (not moved) because a couple of folk made some stupid comments - Asking seasoned member (as in this thread) to leave when the moderation mechanism has failed is also a bit tight IMHO.

Some forums a more akin to a private club or religious institution where all new members are infidels and require bending over a table and anyone who dares mention or question the "bleedin obvious" is cast asunder.

However I can honestly say tho that following my initial post here a couple of weeks back I received some insightful domain relevant practical advice, generously supplied (inc 4+ hrs by phone), of significant commercial value.

For that I am grateful to this community and extremely grateful to that member in particular.

I'll get my coat....

Don't worry, the person who made that comment is like a broken record and has been banging on about the same "issue" for a while now. I too thought it was pretty crass and unwelcoming to any new members that read it.

As with many forums, a small minority of the older members start to become insecure and look back on the "old days of the forum" with rose tinted specs whilst their egos grow with each year they have been a member.

It is a minority though, and you will find most members, newer and older on here are very kind with sharing their advice and will welcome any questions.

You've previously edited posts of mine, and at least one former well respected member of this forum, to make yourself look less ridiculous after posts that you made were replied to in the spirit of how you wrote them (neither of us were abusive). As a moderator I don't feel you should be editing my posts unless they explicitly break rules, not least because doing so suits you as a forum contributor. :)

I appreciate how annoying it must be to have people post in the wrong sections all the time and how mind-numbing it might be having to move or delete those threads time and time again. However there are always going to be varying degrees of rule controvention and sometimes it is both polite and respectful to explain to the forum member why his/her post is being edited/moved/deleted. It can be annoying to find posts or entire threads removed and no apparent reason why.

i have never edited any of your posts and tbh like admin has said above you have the options - just click here http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/login.php=logout

Thanks for that. I was a bit taken aback too!

I agree 100% with Invincible's post as usual.

you would - and tbh ive had it to the back teeth of ungrateful members moaning and winging about other members, posting threads in the wrong sections and all i try to do is keep the forum tidy and clean

maybe its time i got my coat eh then when the forum fills up with shite spam, people swearing at each other, viagra posts in the domains for sale, no one to remove your posts you want removing as you have sold the domain name you posted for sale, asking me to remove unwanted comments out of sales threads maybe you will realise all the moderating i have done for free for the past few years was worth it...

this is all i have to say on this matter. If you dont like me a a moderator send admin a pm for me to be removed and i will stop moderating - It's as simple as that.
